After spending 6 minutes into the game I could immediately tell that, despite this game holding the Ridge Racer name, it shares very little of what Ridge Racer actually is. Drifting doesn't work the same, driving feels off, there's car demolition which doesn't belong in this series imo. It's a really generic racing game. I feel really let down by this. But I should've known, the reviews already warned me. Glad I got it on sale.2 found this helpful
No online but you get a kick out of the races.1 found this helpful
this game is like the DmC: Devil May Cry/Bomberman Act Zero of the Ridge Racer series (still bears the series' name but took a dark and edgy turn type and failed miserably). while being a good dumb fun and explosive arcade racing experience, it also is a frustratingly unfinished piece of sh*t. The fictional car designs are actually pretty good (but too few customization options) compared to the likes of Split/Second or Burnout, and their stats do have significant differences in performance (the DLC cars are really great throwbacks to older games but they're GARBAGE); but they all handle like wet noodles (the drifting is trash but also is pretty rewarding if you're used to it, I guess the chase cam didn't do it any justice), one mistake and you're toast with absolutely 0 room to recover, especially on time attack events. The maps are cool and fitting for that kind of edgy/early 2010s MySpace scene vibe but sometimes they get really dark to the point that you might crash into something without being aware (and that also leads to retries after retries since you can't really afford a mistake that significantly slows you down, no matter how many sick moves you pulled earlier). The AI…
Probably the worst drifting I have experienced in any video game, Avoid!
The drifting kinda sucks, at least with most cars. Besides that, this game doesn't really deserve negative reviews, based on the game itself because its a pretty solid game. It's the name and it doesn't honor it. It's a Burnout game and that's exactly what I like. Except Burnout games have a better (faster) sense of speed. What I also really like about this game is that it's not another open world chore checklist/drive around aimlessly and do some races in between type of racing game. Fun game with a sick OST. Worth every cent so far of the 2.99 euros on sale including its DLCs.
What if ridge racer copied burnout revenge and split second. an odd direction for the series. while it nails its graphics, presentation, enviromental destruction and having a stellar sound track the overall gameplay isnt as fleshed out. Its an arcade racer and you can find fun with the destruction and track builder, but it isnt only "Ridge Racer" in name only
