About RoadOut

RoadOut is a post-apocalyptic action RPG that combines top-down, twin stick combat with rubber-burning driving mechanics. Explore a vast, desolate world in your car, then battle your way through puzzle-filled dungeons on foot. With inspirations from The Legend of Zelda, GTA and Rock'n Roll Racing, RoadOut is a story-driven adventure full of gangs, cybernetics and rip-roaring races. After a great cataclysm, what's left is a post-apocalyptic world dominated by an A.I. with rebel groups that take refuge in a desert area known as The Dead Zone.Claire survives in this world by executing black market contracts for local leaders involving delivery, sabotage and murder. The Dead Zone, now not so dead, is occupied by three rival factions: The Wasteheads, The SaibaKuran, and Order of the New Code. While investigating her past, Claire uncovers strange evidence that links her existence to the origin of the A.I…

Explore the World on Wheels

The world is no longer the same. All that remains is The Dead Zone, a large artificial biome created to sustain a new era of humanity. Drive through The Dead Zone doing jobs, getting paid and running roughshod over the scum guarding the secrets of the world. Join factions, fight rival gangs, barter items and take up quests to earn clout while progressing Claire’s story.

Twin Stick Combat and Dungeon Exploration

Exit your ride and explore locations in the world of RoadOut on foot. Crush bandits with short and long range attacks, block with your shield, and recover using drugs that you’ve crafted on the way. Solve puzzles using fully rotatable stack sprite perspectives that look 2D, but are actually 3D.

Body Mods and Cybernetics

Craft new moves, weapons and drugs to survive. You can customize Claire with body mods, cybernetics and an intricate skill tree system. Upgrade her car to traverse different terrain and withstand the effects of weather, night and day.

Battle in Your Bitchin' Ride

Equipped with weapons and other tech, Claire’s car is your best friend against dangers in The Dead Zone. Hungry animals are ready to rip you apart. Murderous bandits will rob your lifeless corpse. Prepare for the worst with your car and its arsenal of weapons.

Race for Glory

The world may have come to an end, but who said we can't have fun? Ride or die in red-hot races to be the best on the post apocalyptic circuit. 10 tracks in multiple biomes, innumerable races, all of them equal measures deadly and glorious. Indulge in extra game modes such as destruction derby-style racing and twisted battle arena, all while roading out to a thumping synthwave soundtrack.

I just started playing this and wasn't going to try it, but I am glad that I did. This game reminds me of the late 80s games with a modern update. If you are looking for something to go back to that nostalgic era, this is a great option to try. Gameplay and Exploration Dungeon exploration is fun with puzzles to solve. Driving feels a little floaty to me but it works. This isn't usually my kind of game, but I am having fun and hope to give it some more time soon. Combat and Controls Fighting on foot is good. I have liked the two boss fights that I have had so far. Fighting in the cars is decent so far with the one mounted weapon that I have. Controls on the controller work well. I have not tried Keyboard and mouse yet. Presentation and Value Music is good. Writing is ok, though nothing that special up to the point I have played. The art style is classic 80's with a 3D modern twist. The price of entry is fair. Final Verdict So far, I'm glad that I tried Roadout. It's a solid trip back to a classic era with enough modern polish to keep it engaging. Let's see if it keeps delivering as we play on.

This is a hidden gem. RoadOut is a game with Zeldaish dungeons but in the over world, you are a car. So far the highlights have been the story beats and the main dungeons. The main dungeons usually revolve around one or two mechanics that are explored through various puzzles and combat until a boss battle occurs. The quality has been solid so far and I look forward to continuing to discover what twists dungeons bring. The story beats have been satisfying so far as the writing is strong, characters look cool as hell, and frankly I like a car driven post apocalyptic setting. It's good stuff. You're friends with a Bear who owns a bar, it's just a collection of good premises. I recommend this game to anyone who likes zelda-likes. At least to try it, it's neat!

Still early on, but I'm amazed at how entertaining this is. From characters, to music, to gameplay, to narrative. Puzzle, combat, driving... it's all A LOT of honest fun. And the pixel arts looks great.

Okay a bit late to this one however, I may only have like 40 minutes on the game currently I am planning on going back to this one on stream and playing a bit more during my next stream. With that out of the way let's get into the actual review The Combat - It is like if you meshed together Enter the Gungeon combat format and gave it steroids like holy I don't know what the other reviews were on about but on mouse and keyboard the combat feels Glorious. You can shield bash to stun enemies, Deflect projectiles, And remember I am less than a hour in so there is probably way more. The Movement - Okay this one is a bit of a toughie, If you are not into the 2.5d topdown view then the movement won't feel great. Dashing will end up being one of your main ways of dodging and getting around when not in the car. Utilize it! The Camera - I personally love the camera the rotating feature is so underutilized in most games that have rotation. This one on the other hand even hides certain puzzles and other stuff behind the rotation. It's creative and feels smooth! The Map - The map is fairly big and exploration feels nice like if you are a completionist and want to fill the map out you can d…

RoadOut is a fantastic shooter that seems to have a little bit of everything. Run-and-gun, death races, boss fights, crafting, puzzles... seriously, everything. Fun game, great sense of humour. Published by Dangen, always a mark of quality. Great game, fun post-apoc setting, wacky characters, Action RPG with car missions as well as dungeon crawls, exploring, honestly there's something here for everyone and it's just full of surprises.
