About Second Rate Superheroes

Bloodthirsty hordes of demons, criminals, clowns, and undead have flooded the streets of the once semi-relevant metropolis. The pantheon of the most famous and charming superheroes are dead or AWOL. Who's left? Well, uh… you guys are. Pick a 'hero' and fight to save Mayor McTrinkle and the, like, two untouched buildings left in the city. You know the drill: step up to the plate for once in your life, pick a sidekick, improve your super-hero game, and survive at least until one of the other Second Rates wakes up at noon and takes over your shift. Keep it up and maybe you'll get your own comic one day... if there was anyone left to write it. With intricate, interwoven and deep gameplay, crazy weapon combos, 20 heroes, 4 sidekicks, 4 levels, 3 difficulties, more than 400 upgrade cards, 82 permanent upgrades, and sweet, sweet hand drawn art – you’ll die over and over from anything but boredom. Ain’t nothing wholesome here: be prepared for a heart pounding urban adventure that juices up the action roguelike genre.
  • A new twist on the genre, giving you a Taunt mechanic and the use of Turrets to defend the Mayor, rather than just yourself.
  • Choose from 20 heroes (16 of which are unlockable), each of which plays entirely different.
  • Choose from 5 different sidekicks / unpaid interns with different bonuses - provided they stick around.
  • 20 minute anxiety inducing runs which can be made even harder with certain in-game cards or purchasable bonuses.
  • Combine 18 Core weapons, 12 Rare weapons, 4 Superweapons, and 4 Side weapons at your fancy.
  • Over 400 ‘cards’ to choose from, in multiple rarities.
  • Metaprogression in the form of 84 permanent upgrade points, plus purchasable one-time items, to turn your Second Rates into eventual First Rates.
  • 86 unlockable weapons, cards, lore and even music.
  • 4 different stages in 3 different difficulties.
  • 18 heart-pounding musical tracks
  • Hours upon hours of frustration, challenge, and heart-pounding fun.
  • 100% original hand drawn art.
Potential Future Roadmap:
  • New Stages.
  • New Unlocks.
  • Multiple new heroes that must be unlocked with late game achievements.
  • New weapons.

✦ AI summary

Players praise this game as an underrated vampire survivor with excellent value for the price and substantial content hours, though many note it improves significantly once you push past a steep early difficulty curve. Common complaints center on clunky UI, readability issues, unbalanced weapon viability, excessive grindiness, and visibility problems with projectiles that make it harder to recommend over genre competitors despite its appealing art style.

A fair poor vampire survivor game. So many of the weapons feel down right unusable. The UI is clunky. Doesn't feel fun to play.

NGL this game is underrated. Beginning can be really hard but if you invest the time into it it pays off as you get progressively stronger then as the description says you watch the numbers go up. There's some QOL issues, like text being hard to read at times. Also some of the heroes seem to outshine the others. But for what it is it's a lot of content for the price

The art style is cool. The gameplay is kinda fun, I like a lot of it. However I feel like its too grindy, upgrades feel lackluster, hard to tell good pickups from things you need to avoid sometimes, hard to see projectiles. There are much better games out there for this genre. Would love to see this title improve on some stuff so I can change this to a thumbs up.
