Solemn Knights: Entirely Ours Definitive Edition – A Proper Look

Introduction
Solemn Knights: Entirely Ours Definitive Edition is an indie turn-based RPG that aims to capture the feel of old-school tactical games but with a modern indie touch. On the surface, it looks like a solid medieval fantasy adventure with methodical combat, exploration, and a slow-burn narrative. However, after spending time with it, it’s clear that while there are good ideas here, the execution stumbles in some major areas—especially when it comes to the story, character development, and lackluster ending.

History and Development
The original Solemn Knights: Entirely Ours was a small indie release that didn’t make much noise. The “Definitive Edition” was supposed to refine the experience, fixing balance issues, adding content, and improving the game overall. While some mechanics have been cleaned up, the biggest flaws—particularly in storytelling and character development—remain untouched. The game seems to have been made by a small team, and while that’s always something to respect, it also means some aspects feel half-baked…5 found this helpful
I'm leaving a positive recommendation because I want to see other RPGmaker devs succeed. I would definitely recommend this game for other RPGmaker developers to get a broader sense of what makes RPG's tick and what makes them break. Overall, despite the above-averge surface-level polish, this game feels like someone's first game and first story as gameplay and story elements feel disjointed and not synergized as a cohesive whole. My big question is, am I the only player to have made it to the very ending on a blind playthrough? This game is VERY difficult.3 found this helpful
RPG Maker strikes again! "Solemn Knights: Entirely Ours Definitive Edition" is one of hundreds of low effort RPG Maker flips spamming the store. RPG Maker is designed specifically to be used by children, in their own words, "These easy to use tools are simple enough for a child". It's just a bunch of canned assets mixed with cringey high school anime club fan fiction. This is another painfully generic RPG Maker asset flip here on Steam, but at least the developer didn't make this one about himself and his imaginary girlfriend. Instead in this high school anime club dropout fan-fiction plot, the author pretends to be a knight from a fantasy world who is then teleported into a completely different fantasy world and engages in the usual crap Final Fantasy ripoff JRPG combat that RPG Maker can't even do a halfway decent job of ripping off. It's all so tiresome. Like other RPG Maker "games", the game engine is extremely low quality. It displays badly in fullscreen, and has no real graphics settings or HD support. It's not up to the same standard we expect from a modern PC game. We can make the argument that construction kit toys like RPG Maker are intended for making small games a…1 found this helpful
I got 5 hours in and for a free game this has legs and seems to stand its ground okay but there are some design faux pas that make this game a bit of a irksome interaction. Update: I got to the end and there is an Endgame/ New Game +. You can get softlocked out of some quests and weapons before ending the game w/o warning unfortunately. You will get access again via post game & New Game +? Pros: Story is generic but serviceable. Unfortunately you don't get a big bad early into proceeding but the main hero shows agency and brings you along for a harrowing journey. Characters seem nice and the writing works for what's given. Same with the world building. Combat and Character Growth are okay but the balancing is slightly odd. Somehow has controller support and fullscreen at least. I like the characters for the most part. They seem believable and likable. The characters are good but the story they are going through sometimes makes some bizarre decisions and goes in weird directions. Cons: Encounter Rate is a b****. So much random battle. Experiencing Performance issues on an RPG Maker Game has me vexed but it also seems my graphics card doesn't want to bother with this game…1 found this helpful
