Welcome to Star Control, Captain! You’re here because you’ve shown exemplary service, aced all your flight exams, and - most importantly - passed all the sanity tests.
Humanity has learned that it is not alone in the universe and that we are hopelessly outmatched by alien civilizations seeking to destroy us. You have been selected to command Earth's first and only interstellar starship to accomplish this - try not to break it. It was expensive.
Your mission: Save humanity, Captain. At all costs and by any means necessary.
A Vast Universe
Set in the year 2088, humanity has discovered it’s not alone in the universe. Worse yet, it is catastrophically unprepared to deal with what's out there. In response, Star Control is formed and the player is selected to command the crew of the U.E.S. Vindicator.
Star Control: Origins takes place in a huge living universe just waiting to be explored. Players will find their time split between exploring distant solar systems, landing on exotic planets, navigating hyperspace, and interacting with alien species.
Encounter exotic alien civilizations. Explore strange new worlds. Assemble a fleet mighty enough to face galactic powers that have bestrode the galaxy for thousands of years.

First of all, SC2 is one of the greatest games of all time. It is in my top 5. I enjoyed the sheet out of SC1 before that. So, when I was reading reviews how this game compared to SC2, plus with all that legal nonsense with Toys for Bob, I was skeptical. But, having just beaten the game I can honestly say that I am impressed! I am impressed how close they got to a genuine 'remake' of SC2. I am impressed how this version felt fresh, fun, flushed out, fairly easy to interface with, and many more positive things that dont start with F. This game actually improved on SC2 in many way. It would and could never beat the writing, but it was an very close attempt! I lol'd more than once and I'm grumpy. I enjoyed picking random star systems to explore. I don't do that on UQRM replays, so it was fun to do that again. I actually used some of the starcrafts that I found. Again, that's another thing I don't do on SC2 replays. Animations were great. Space battles felt interesting, if a bit easy. Color scheme was nice. I enjoyed this more than the MOO remake. I wish i could give mixed reviews. I neither hate or love this game. On one hand, music is the best part of this game, the talking heads are animated extremely well, and the gameplay is serviceable, and the villains are the only faction/alien species i like. On the other hand, the dialogue is mostly awful, the humor reminds me of high on life and reddit tier garbage, the voice acting ranges from ok to awful, and there doesn't feel like there is much do to. Planet exploration is very bland, resource collection is bland, the worlds feel extremely empty. This is my first experience with a star control series game, i don't know if the rest of the series is like this, but i cannot say one way or another if i would recommend this game. EDIT: After finishing the game and the DLc i am extremely disappointed, the DLC just added a even more fetch quests and the story that does get added on just ends in disappointment and never gets explored.5 found this helpful
