If you overlap yourself over an enemy as they approach you from a distance, and if they fire a shot, you will instantly take damage. For some enemies, if you want to damage them, you may have to eat shots in order to hit them. I found that staying lower on the screen, your shots travel further upwards, making it optimal for taking out enemies and bosses. Exiting the game sometimes resets your whole progress. The levels you cleared, and the coins you obtained. All gone. And I attempted to go for a 3 Stars for all levels, by replaying the first level, obtain 100 coins, purchase the shield. After losing that shield near the end, I grinded for 100 coins again, and purchased the shield again, only to replay the level I lost the shield in, and the shield isn't there. Lost all interest in 100% it after that, but I did have a little…
