About Starfighter Aces

✦ AI summary

Lead your starfighter squadron through brutal 20-mission campaigns against intelligent enemy AI that coordinate in groups and challenge you to duels as your reputation grows. Survive purely on piloting skill with massive dogfights featuring hundreds of ships battling simultaneously, no power-ups or shortcuts.

Finally, the time has come - the opportunity to immerse yourself in huge space battles with hundreds of allies and enemies all fighting at once! In Starfighter Aces, you take the role of a new pilot in the Allied Starfighter Corps.

As a fresh officer, you'll fly increasingly difficult missions with your squadron. Each victory will bring you closer to promotion - and more importantly - a complete tour of duty. After 20 missions, combat pilots may retire from the service. Can you survive long enough to leave the war behind?

FEATURES

  • Massive battles: team-based battles with up to hundreds of ships all dogfighting at the same time!
  • Hone your skill: no buffs for the player here - your only advantage over the AI pilots is your mastery of the starfighter.
  • Intelligent AI: be careful out there! The enemy will work in groups, try to pick off stragglers, and cover for each other.
  • Track your progress: as you move up the ranks, complete missions, and shoot down enemies, you'll receive a wide array of medals.
  • Duel enemy aces: as your victories stack up, your name might get noticed. Enemy aces will challenge you to one-on-one duels in deep space.

What are you waiting for, cadet? Get out there and help bring this fight to the enemy!

A good idea, and clearly a remake of one of my favorite old flash games (Azul Baronis), but with a set of two issues that, together, absolutely cripple playability. First is the most severe: Fighters have severe TTK, and very little skill variation. An enemy fighter that wants to get away from the player usually will, if anything else is going on. Kills build up slowly, and the player doesn't feel like he's having an impact on fights. Made worse by the fact that enemies don't have visible health or shields. Fighting enemy fighters individually is / should be the game's core mechanic, but it's an unsatisfying gameplay loop. Azul Baronis did this a lot better by giving each fighter a mouse-controlled firing arc. Second is the most obnoxious: The enemy does indeed 'notice' the player. About 15 seconds into a battle, the enemy will deploy two fighters to hunt down the player. This precludes him from doing anything meaningful. Issue one means that dueling two fighters at once is unreliable at best, so you're just stuck running away for the whole battle. Allies do not appear to intervene, and the enemy will prioritize you in particular with this endless stream of fighters. I should not…

Super basic. Doesn't seem like there's much to the tactics except "hold the fire button down until you die then click New Game".

I love Indie Games, but this one i cannot recommend. The Controls are not shown "anywhere" you have to figure out and spam the Keyboard... you fly with the arrow key and cant change anything The Buttons in the Menu are totally off for me. You need to hover above the Buttons to accept. "Techroom" does not even work for me, since you have to click on a Pilots Name but its not working. YOU end up on the Pilots Page... yeah, dont recommend it! Its 5 Bucks for me and thats a lot to ask for!
