About Starship Intruder
Control your starship by using the command line interface. You will use commands to utilize the weapons, move from sector to sector, raid planets, enter warp, draw space cards to obtain advantages (and disadvantages) and much more.
As an example, you can order your starship to move to sector 3 by the following command:
However, the wording is not very critical. You could also have input "go to sector 3" or "fly to sector 3" to yield the same result. Even just typing "3" will work. Likewise, "fire photon torpedo" can also be obtained by "fire photon", "fire torpedo", "launch photon torpedo" etc.
The command line interface was inspired by classic PC games, such as Space Quest and Leisure Suit Larry.
Starship Intruder was created with crude, almost black and white, graphics. This was done to emulate the look of early PC games. The sound and mucis was done with an analog synthesizer, a digital synthesizer and a drum machine. Everything is synthetic, except for the voice - which has been run through a vocoder.
A list of commands can be found in the game menu.
Command examples:
- "go to warp" or "engage" etc.
- "move to sector x" or just "x" etc.
- "fire photon torpedo" or "launch photon" etc.
- "stop music"
- "fire decoy"
- "exit game"
- "beam down landing party" or "send team" etc.
- "beam up landing party" or "beam back crew" etc.
- "draw card" or "flip card" etc.

Bought this game after seeing a few positive reviews. Was left extremely disappointed. To start off, the controls are awkward and opaque. Many commands you'd expect to work, do not: e.g. "fire bolt" works, but "fire bolts" does not, even though the weapon is listed as "bolts" in the UI. There is no in-game help to give you an indicator of what commands are available, you just need to try typing commands randomly until you find the right combination. The gameplay is extremely basic, with your ship just moving through the 9-spaced grid sector and firing on enemy ships when they get close enough. The presentation is ok, with the exception of part of the main menu being blurred, while everything else is rendered pixel-perfect. This is the sort of game you'd expect to find on itch priced as pay-what-you-want, not as a 10 USD full priced title on Steam.3 found this helpful
A bizarre smash up of star trek bridge crew and typing of the dead. You need to carefully manage you ammo and prioritize between maneauvering attacking and defending, each action requiring a lengthy string to be typed perfectly. Very original concept great for booting up when you just feel like playing for a short session3 found this helpful
It is an interesting game by typing command to control your startship. You will control your spacecraft to fly in the universe , equip weapons, and shoot at the enemy. This game requires you to have clear decision-making and typing speed, which is a new and different game experience. I also love the background music. It recalls my memory when I was child and played PC game like this. :)3 found this helpful
First off the bat - I have never played anything like this before; controlling a space game with typing commands. Disclaimer: I only use Steam for the new Red Alert: Remastered, but I learned of this game on FB. You'll have to like the following to enjoy the game: 1 bit graphics and typing. You'll die a lot at first, but you will find a method to the madness and learn to use commands and when to use what weapons. I usually take out everything in a level and then raid the planet.1 found this helpful
First command I typed... crash. Tried again... crash. Refund please! Too bad... Really looks like something I'd like. Btw. if you think this is something you'd like (if it would work), download EGATREK for free. It's old, but it's still great.
