Its a decent vampire survivors like if a bit visually busy. The cutscenes are well voice acted; the robot designs look cool and are obviously inspired by well known mecha anime. I can only recommend it for the low asking price Edit After playing a bit more, sadly the weapons are very uninspired & the visual presentation of the bosses is really cool, until i noticed that you aren't actually allowed to fight said bosses, you just deplete an enemy forces gauge. Why put giant battleships on the screen if you cannot hit/destroy them?9 found this helpful
I have such a love for Survivors games that I play as many as I can. Their evolution of what these kinds of games can do and watching it unfold in real time is great, from games like Vampire Survivors to Halls of Torment, to Deep Rock Survivors, to Megabonk, and even lesser known like Project Lazarus, they all bring something unique to the table that makes it even greater to play each one. With Armis, I loved the idea of an anime styled mecha Survivors game, and had some fun with the demo. And much to my surprise, the demo's progress carried over to the official release. However, the demo's issues still carried over to the official release, as well. The game's uniqueness compared to other Survivors games lies in its visuals seeing as I haven't seen another game of this genre ever do it before. The motion over a city while taking out enemies is a surprising delight, and seeing a space station in the background become closer as the timer draws to a close before having to take it on as a boss (even if it's just waves of enemies being sent at you and you aren't actually attacking the boss itself), it's still a fun take on what we've seen many times before. The other part I haven't se…3 found this helpful
TL/DR: 8/10 Good mecha survivors If you like gundam, and survivors. This is like peanutbutter and jelly. It has an actual story, great japanese voice acting. The game isnt super hard, but some boss fights will keep you on the ropes. The graphics are great, and that might be an issue if you playing on a low power handheld, but you can use lossless scaling to fix that. It has a very strong arcade feel to it, which makes pick up and play easy. Some of the weapon options dont seem as strong and could use some tuning, but none of them seem bad. Its a good survivor with an awesome mecha theme, and im looking forward to see them develop the game further. Im lazy and often dont write reviews, but i didnt want this one to go overlooked or underappreciated :)2 found this helpful
Falling short of immense potential.
Steel Knight's Armis is an astonishing example where excellent gameplay gets dragged down into mediocrity by a lack of awareness for competing products in a fast evolving genre. I'm barely giving it a pass, like a 5 or 6 out of 10. I recommend to play this underdog game for anyone who likes bullet heaven, already had completed the big names in the genre, and is looking for something fresh to play, buys only at a discount and has mild expectations regarding completion lenght. I don't recommend the game to anyone else. You can now stop reading if you wanted the quick rundown, or dig into the upcoming wall of text to find out why. A beast in gameplay enjoyment. These devs truely managed to capture the picture perfect feeling of piloting a mech in space. It is so good, I'm struggeling to find the right words. The movement of your machine is not exactly snappy and direct, it's floaty, you are fighting the inertance of space with a jetpack on your back. But it is also predictable how you gonna fly, what a full stop will do, what angle you gonna drift around. In addition to that you can evade dash actively, the size of the dash…1 found this helpful
A unique spin on the Vampire Survivor formula. It's practically mecha anime blended in with bullet heaven gameplay. Kill enemies, level up, get stronger, survive etc.. But the objectives make the gameplay unique, as apart from survive the players can be required to kill a certain set amount of enemies or bosses within a certain time limit, incentivizing making risky moves to maximize damages to meet the time limit in some instance. Another unique aspect of this game is that it have an actual story. A mecha story. And this story is... meh? It is overly complex, too many characters get introduced without the player getting to know them properly. Terms are thrown around without proper explanation as to what they mean, serving only to confuse rather than excite. The means by which the story is told is through voiced dialogue boxes in the middle of missions (well voiced though, in Japanese) with no stills or even the VN section of story telling. And there are only 5 chapters, when they ought to have been 10. There is something of a story here and it would benefit so much from giving more time for it to be told. And an encyclopedia, that is definitely needed. Overall, it is a fun e…1 found this helpful
It's okay. Auto combat but some attacks do have to be aimed. Good choice of skills and upgrades. Variety of pilots and mechs. There isn't any freedom during story mode. That is the main negative. So the positives of having variety aren't there until you replay a level. You can refund all the points you invest so changing characters is not a problem. It is fair for the price if not a little disappointing.
