Storyline

The story begins when contractor Sgt. Jed Riddle is brought in to investigate a mining facility that has mysteriously gone radio silent. A tense shootout ensues, leading Riddle to take a closer look into what exactly is going on and the dark secrets lurking in the shadows.

Beyond the core narrative and exhilarating feeling of piloting a nimble spacecraft on the fringes of the galaxy, Subdivision Infinity DX features an array of optional content to allow players to explore the stars to their hearts content while taking on bounties, mining asteroids for rare minerals, unlocking new ships, and crafting increasingly powerful upgrades along the way.

The game has full gamepad support.

The first full retail title I bought on PC was Wing Commander, the first one, and I loved it, and I love the genre (arcade space shooters). Games of this genre are few and far between and Subdivision Infinity DX most definitely scratches that itch and gets a thumb up from me, with some caveats. Firstly, the flight controls, on keyboard and mouse are on point, at least using a mouse with 3200dpi, I've played many games of the genre and felt right at home instantly. Graphics and sound both get a thumbs up although my 5700x/3070 do get a little strained playing the game, akin to playing a AAA title, I guess due to optimisation, or rather lack there of. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and enjoying the game, but... it feels like what it is, in terms of content, a cheap indie game. The game consists of fixed instanced missions and "free play" areas where you can search out hidden loot boxes with items and cash, farm enemies for XP and items, and also mine asteroids for resources that can be used to build and upgrade ships, and weapons, or sold. The mission difficulty increases rather quicker than I would like, but you can replay any mission as many times as you want or do free p…
About
The game is, as other reviews mention, a space fighting game. You have a pretty linear story line, no choices, no space exploration. Each misssion is basically in a small sector, you have to fly somewhere, stay close to something, and kill all the enemies. There are so-called exploration missions, where you can find some blueprints and resources for crafting new ships and upgrading your weapons. But it's basically like another mission, where you have to find some well hidden boxes and enemies keep spawning.
Look and feel
The graphics and sound are decent. The story is okay, nothing special. It's somewhat visual novel style dialog. The character portraits however lack mimics, which makes it feel a bit dry. The controls with mouse and keyboard felt intuitive and allow you perform some nice maneuvering during the fights and in-structure explorations.
Tips
The game has a few quirks, you should be aware of, to make your life a bit easier. Beware of asteroids. They don't do high damage in particular, but you may get stuck inside and have to restart. You need to start the mission from the beginning, as there are no savepoints inside a mission, but missi…

One of the developers told the players there will be an update to include first person view in the game steam forum. https://steamcommunity.com/app/908790/discussions/0/1639793203766761592/ Well looks like it was a lie, three years later after their post there is still no options to play in first person. Also the game is not really good to be honest, it's a mediocre mobile game ported to pc with minor improvements. At least there's no micro transactions but you still have to grind doing boring missions to unlock stuff. Graphics are decent, gameplay and physics are nothing special and not really interesting to be honest. Subdivision Infinity DX is not a bad game but why bother playing this when games like Everspace 2 exist. Maybe one day out of boredom I will dedicate more time to this game and try to finish it but to be honest it's just a slog to play.
Rating 3/10.
