Super Blue Boy Planet

A short, simple, free platformer with no big ideas or hidden depth, but it turns the basics into something clean, focused, and quietly satisfying.

Super Blue Boy Planet is a really simple little platformer, but I actually had a decent time with it because it does not try to make things more complicated than they need to be. I play as Blue Boy, whose girlfriend has been kidnapped by aliens, and I have to make my way through 21 short levels to rescue her. Most of the time I am just jumping over hazards, dealing with enemies and trying to get through each stage without messing up. The story is basically just an excuse to get me moving, but I think the simple setup suits the game. The platforming is easy to understand straight away. I can jump, move around the levels and stomp enemies, while some sections also have switches, bridges and little puzzles that make me stop and think for a moment. The controls feel responsive enough for the kind of short levels it has, and I like that checkpoints are placed fairly often. When I make a stupid mistake, I do not have to replay a massive section just to get back to where I was. That keeps the game moving and stops the easier parts from becoming annoying. Short little, awesome little, 21-level platformer.

Most of the games you see today are really fast paced with all these flashing lights and photorealistic graphics...Maybe we just need something small. Something that challenges you the same way a game from 20-30 years ago would. This is something like it. Not something big to take away your freedom (be it unbeknownst to you), or a dopamine-inflicting piece of work. If this game piques your interest, try it! It's great for a small session where you don't really know what to play. I think I remember when [b] I [/b] first played this. It was summer in 2019 I think? I hadn't spent money on games back then so I made do of what was there. And I'm guessing that I liked this game! I must have. I did finish it after all. So why wouldn't you?
