I like the game so far... Thing is the game is broken. Right before you get get your 5th character the game starts crashing every once in awhile. After getting your 5th character, the game crashes every 5-10 minutes making it unplayable. This is well outside of the 2 hours refund window that Steam allows. Really wish Valve would check and make sure the games they sell would work start to end before taking money from ppl for them....

I'm glad I reached the end of Tales of Berseria. Getting there was a struggle. Velvet, the party chemistry, the English dub and the skits completely won me over. I genuinely wanted to spend more time with these characters. Unfortunately, nearly every gameplay system fought against that. Traversal is painfully slow, dungeons drag on, enemies are everywhere, and the combat never really clicked for me. Eventually I enabled the Grade Shop's 6× EXP just so I could focus on the part I actually loved. Looking back, I'm happy I stayed until the credits. I'll remember the journey, the characters and the laughs. But I wish getting there had been less of a struggle. As for the remaster... I wish it had tried to fix those long-standing issues instead of simply adding a few conveniences.

Dropped after twenty hours. Berseria had a strong start, but everything about its presentation and characterizations in large part screams 'generic RPG' with no concrete identity to set itself apart. The main cast felt like cardboard cutouts, each too motivated by a singlular purpose that it couldn't get me invested into them as anything beyond archetypes. The combat felt responsive once I got it, but like Rune Factory Azuma it just got repetitive after a while with no real challenge. I did like the little VN-esque interludes, and Magilou was cool. They could never make me hate her.
