About Tex Murphy: Overseer

The Adventure Game of the 21st Century

The client is drop-dead gorgeous. Her father is just plain dead—of an apparent suicide. She's certain he was murdered and is willing to do anything to prove it. Tex Murphy, the P.I., is willing to do almost anything to make rent. The investigation leads Tex into the heart of a dark secret. An elite team of specialists have created something unspeakable. Now each of them are marked for death, and so begins the reign of the Overseer...

Overseer is a retelling of the story from Mean Streets, and contradicts many of the events and character descriptions in the original story. Since Overseer is part of the "modern era" of Tex adventures, it is safe to consider the new, retold story as "canon."

It's really difficult to get this game working correctly. Can the developers please offer a run on DOS box option like the other four games have? If not that, then can you please provide another way to run it? I request some kind of patch from the developers. It's confusing when I try to run the game. It can get Windows stuck in a low resolution mode. I was able to run it with one option and get it going, but If forgot how and the intro and cut scenes could not be run correctly. I'm asking the developers to please provide a better means for running this game on modern Windows machines. I'm using Windows 11. I own the game, but it needs some kind of updated environment to run in. Otherwise, I will never be able to play it. I have more than ample graphics support to run it, but there is a fundamental problem with how the game runs in general. I would love to play it. Thanks. I own all five Tex Murphy games, and I plan on getting the sixth one, "Tex Murphy: Killing Moon Rising", once it is released. Overseer is the one that doesn't work. I love a lot of Access Software games, including Countdown and Crimewave. In an additional request, can you please also put those two games on Steam…

♥♥♥♥ you Overseer, ♥♥♥♥ you. I was going through the whole Tex Murphy series and i wanted to see a nicer looking Mean streets, but no, this ♥♥♥♥ is unplayable. Even Martian Memorandum was completely playable in Dosbox, but this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pile of ♥♥♥♥ is always crashing. I spend much more time rebooting my pc, geting into Windows, Steam and the game, than playing. In half a year i played 8 hours only, beacuse it always crashed, both on Win 7 and 10. I dont even notice the graphics and sound glitches anymore, everything that was supposed to be seethrough, like a glass door, window is now a black rectangle, i see black boxes around every 3d model, the videos crash half the time when they are over. I play around them, but the constant crashing is horrible. Fix it or dont sell it. Shame on you Nightdive.

Another Tex Murphy "remaster" that doesn't quite work on modern PCs.

Tex Murphy: Overseer, developed by Access Software and published by Nightdive Studios, is a classic interactive adventure that represents both the culmination of a pioneering era in full-motion video storytelling and a fascinating relic of late-1990s experimentation in narrative-driven game design. It revisits the origins of the Tex Murphy saga, retelling the events of the first game, Mean Streets, through the lens of the series’ more sophisticated 3D adventure format. Overseer serves as both a prequel and a technical showcase, combining live-action performances with a free-roaming 3D environment to create a film noir mystery that blends classic detective fiction with dystopian science fiction. Set in a post-World War III San Francisco, the game follows Tex Murphy, a hardboiled private investigator whose sharp wit, cynical humor, and moral compass anchor a story filled with corruption, conspiracy, and the remnants of a fractured society. The narrative unfolds as a flashback, framed by Tex recounting one of his earliest cases during a dinner date with his on-again, off-again love interest, Chelsee Bando. This structure gives Overseer a reflective, almost nostalgic tone, as players …

This game is a classic. These games were the first of its kind back in the day. For people complaining, this is almost a 30 year old game. Show some respect for "Tex Murphy" MFR
