The 111th Soul

A short and simple game. The graphics are decent, and the story is okay.

This is now a free horror game from the portuguese Ricardo Pratas. It is a very limited game due to the fact that he was doing this almost alone, and it was his first. Nevertheless, I have to say the game was interesting and that a new version of the game, with more puzzles, more choices, more endings, is something everyone is expecting. The 111th Soul is incredibly short, with the entire game taking around 10–20 minutes even if you play through all three endings. There are no Steam achievements or Trading Cards either, which is a shame because the three endings, puzzles and other story milestones would have been perfect opportunities for them. The ending requirements are also rather ridiculous, with one ending depending on remembering trivial details from the house, and there have even been complaints about two of the endings being labelled incorrectly. It’s free now, but there simply isn’t enough here to make it particularly memorable.

The story carried this game. That's the only reason it got the rating it did. The game is super dark, and even turning the brightness up I couldn't see the objects to pick up. If the darkness adds to the atmosphere then have the items like up or some kind of indicator so you know what you're clicking on. Or even a flashlight. It's a little clunky, but the story is decent to sit through. I give it a 6/10 on the Pear Scale.
