About THE AWKWARD STEVE DUOLOGY
FMV and absurdist arthouse cinema collide in THE AWKWARD STEVE DUOLOGY
IN A WORLD, FRAUGHT WITH STRANGERS...
ONE MAN MUST FACE HIS FEARS
AND INTERACT WITH THEM IN A TOTALLY NORMAL AND HEALTHY WAY
First, help Awkward Steve psych himself up to answer the door in A STRANGER COMES CALLING! Lower his Anxiety by hiding under tables, petting rabbits and more, so he can build the courage to open his front door to somebody he doesn't even know.
Then, in DON'T TURN YOUR BACK ON THE OCEAN, Steve gets trapped in the bathroom while his roommate's throwing a wild rager! Hang out in the bathroom with Steve until it's over—or until...?

It's not high art, and the production values are sub-basement, but it's pretty darned funny and it very much captures the essence of social anxiety. I mean, not in a clinically accurate way; it's pretty hyperbolic/exaggerated, but it's not designed to be a psychological treatise. So, lower your expectations for FMV camera work, voice work, etc and just have an amusing time trying to get an incredibly anxious person to answer the door and possibly join a party. Ocean broke my heart, in all the right ways. Definitely play stranger first. Then Ocean. You'll never see the the feels coming.1 found this helpful
Firstly, for proper experience, play the games "in order". They are not directly related plotwise, but I don't think the overall experience works quite well if you play A STRANGER COMES CALLING second. Now, given the title you wouldn't be entirely wrong in believing this to be a one joke experience, as indeed much of the experience boils down to just that: Steve has severe social anxiety and simple situations become needlessly complicated because of this. The first game in particular is a pseudo-RPG in how your objective is to try to find a way to calm Steve down enough for an eventual "stat check". Obviously along the way you enjoy all the ways in which you can fail, but this is how the gameplay loop is justified. There's a minor "wholesome game" undertone to how some of the mini-scenarios are played out, but this one's still at its core a comedy. Then comes DON'T TURN YOUR BACK ON THE OCEAN, and things change. While there's still some Henry Stickam-esque "see all the funny ways in which you can fail" aspect, this time the plot is actually fully linear and more in line with a visual novel. And then... I won't spoil it (any more than the intrinsic "well, there's a twist" spoiler)…1 found this helpful
I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of y…1 found this helpful
