The Inn Between

Bought around release as a new player. This game has a lot of promise. It's in Early Release after a long development delay where it appears the devs didn't communicate a whole lot while people were waiting for updates. If i knew that before purchase I may have held off, but I'm cautiously optimistic. Writing-wise it needs improvement, there's a lot of stereotypical phrases and descriptions that make it hard to stay immersed and not leap to conclusions about the writing. There are incredibly redundant and lazy descriptions of characters used. Referring to a person by their hair color multiple times within the same scene is boring, and the characters should have more personality for a good writer to pull from. We can see their pictures. We don't need constant reminders of their hair color. The script should be written for the player's game experience--not to describe scenes for a story board artist. The art is pretty nice and stands strong enough on its own. I haven't experienced some of the light overload other people have reported. There are ways to tweak sound and graphic settings--I recommend tuning down the sound effects, as the default settings are startlingly loud. The …

Still playing through since there's a lot of content (really good content), but so far I can say: • Really cute art (the pencil Myka has on his ear is such a cute touch)! • The backgrounds have life to them, they change with the text and it really adds to the immersion of the story. Similarly, the effects on the CGs really add to the life of them. • I’m not used to 3rd person for a dating sim, but the writing is well done and polished • There’s a lot of writing already for just the common route so it’s a really good price for the content. • The music is really complimentary! • I really loved how the text is emphasized by wriggling, being bolded, or decreasing in size. • There are a lot of save slots and rollback for text which is super helpful for any VN. Minor suggestions (just really small QoL): • It would be nice if the history chat was most recent on top so you don’t need to scroll • It would be nice if you could skip the mobile texts as well for replayability

I had this one wishlisted and snapped it up as soon as it went early access. The story is interesting - looking forward to seeing the mystery unfold and finding out the truth about Myka's origins and the inn's inhabitants. The art is pretty and I'm especially fond of Emrys, because, I mean, clothing-averse catboys, lol. In all seriousness, the writing needs a *little* polish in a line editing sense, but the overall game is so charming that it more than makes up for it, and I'm looking forward to seeing where this one goes. Definitely not disappointed that I picked this one up. Lots to explore, and plenty more to come, if the roadmap the devs have shared is any indication.

so so so good! the art is so nice, so hooked by the story! cannot wait for the full release. would defs recommend playing. Solas is the GOAT!!!

I really REALLY want to like this game. And admittedly, I've only gotten an hour and a half into it. So I want to give it more time before I would say i don't recommend it The art is AMAZING, and the premise is so promising. But I haven't gotten to the meat of the game because the beginning so far feels slow and the choices I've made so far make it feel like I've been railroaded to the opposite outcome every time. I wish there was a bit more show than tell in a lot of ways. I wish we *saw* the dream that haunts the main character even once since he says he sees it so often I wish the spots that really try to drive home how much we don't know was more streamlined so we could get to the meat of the plot faster. It just feels a bit like it's trying to tell me "ooo it's mysterious" in a similar way about the same information each time so far especially when we compare that time spent to how much less I've interacted with other characters so far. I think it has SO much potential and will definitely give it more time But I think that a more streamlined intro would be a huge improvement

I'm genuinely hooked to the plot right now, I'm so excited to know more in the future especially how each route will go! I really love the dynamics between the characters too and how they are all connected to one another. I didn't realize there was an actual QTE though, I was kind of just chilling during that part and was surprised I'm suddenly in the shadow realm (/ref) 😭 There was definitely a hint but I thought it was just in-character dialogue, rather than an actual mechanic oops - So I hope there can be an OOC indicator for that beforehand. Just a minor thing though, since it's super easy to roll back or reload, but would be nice if possible :]
