The Knobbly Crook

Fun.

Pretty fun game with some absolutely great visuals and some good humour to it. Spent entire sequences with a smile on my face. Found the world a lot of fun, very silly, lots of excuses to hang jokes on things with some greater depth hinted at. Puzzles were decent and didn't stretch too far into the kind of logic PnC's are infamous for, only getting stuck one or two times leading up to the end. All in all a great one-dev game and for the price of literally nothing, what you get is amazing. *Very obviously* a passion project and a half, and even if it is not as recognised as it probably should be, they still made something wonderful. Really glad I randomly clicked on this game out of curiosity while browsing Mobygames, since I don't think I would ever have heard of it otherwise. (The intro contains a warning that the game may contain, amoungst other things 'Bad Takes', and yeah, I can guess what it is referring too, at least that entire sequence is maybe 5 minutes long. Didn't taint the game for me.)

The puzzles in this are too obscure, and sometimes fail - I'm using a walkthrough and I still can't get past the first 1/3 of the game. It could be fun, but e.g. how am I supposed to think of tickling all of the hanging skeletons until one of them drops something hidden??

Игра "The Knobbly Crook" подкупила меня своим необычным стилем и атмосферой. Пиксельная графика создает какое-то трогательное, почти ностальгическое ощущение, а мрачный юмор и абсурдные ситуации заставляют улыбаться даже в самые напряженные моменты. Геймплей прост, но увлекателен. Механика с использованием "Громилы" интересна и разнообразна, заставляя находить нетривиальные решения в каждом задании. Головоломки в меру сложные, требуют внимательности к деталям и немного креативности. Сюжет, хоть и не лишен клише, подан с изюминкой. Главный герой - весьма харизматичный персонаж, и наблюдать за его приключениями в этом странном и опасном мире действительно интересно. Из минусов можно отметить некоторую однообразность локаций, но это с лихвой компенсируется уникальным визуальным стилем и продуманным дизайном уровней. В целом, "The Knobbly Crook" - это отличная инди-игра, способная подарить несколько часов увлекательного геймплея и приятных впечатлений. Рекомендую всем любителям приключенческих игр с юмором и пиксельной графикой.
