About Oknytt

Oknytt is a point-and-click adventure game where the player takes the role of a small, seemingly insignificant creature, leading it through a dark world riddled with obstacles to help it find a place to belong. The game takes place in a Norse medieval world and contains a number of beings and areas inspired by Swedish folklore.

Oknytt's gameplay is comprised of classic point-and-click puzzle solving combined with the usage of four runes located at the bottom of the screen. These runes can be activated at any time to trigger various changes and events in the area around the protagonist. Each rune has a specific element tied to it which have different areas of use depending on what can currently be seen in the environment.
Figuring out what the runes can be used for and how to utilise their affect on the environment together with the items at your disposal is key to you being able to progress through the game world.

Features
 • Manipulate the environment around you using elemental forces
 • A unique art style inspired by the famous Swedish painter John Bauer
 • Experience and collect lore about creatures and monsters from Scandinavian folklore
 • Fully voiced by the talented Brian Hall
 • 6-7 hours of puzzle solving

This was one of the first puzzle games I ever attempted. I wasn't very good back then, and got stuck on one of the puzzles in Chapter One. After too many years, I finally decided to dust it off and give it another try, and I'm so glad I did! Granted, I had to look up a guide because I'd forgotten how to play, so for the first half hour I was just running around clicking things and not getting an option wheel. Sigh. BUT. I figured things out, solved the original main boss puzzle, and finished the game in a couple hours. This is honest to goodness one of the most satisfying completions I've ever done. Rarely have I loved a fictional character more than I love that little creature. <3

This hauntingly beautiful indie gem blends atmospheric exploration with poetic storytelling, immersing you in a world where silence speaks louder than words. The hand-crafted visuals, evocative lighting, and ambient sound design create an emotional journey that lingers long after play ends. Puzzle elements are subtle yet profound, rewarding curiosity rather than forcing challenge. A rare masterpiece of mood, mystery, and quiet wonder. 📜✨

I liked it. It hit the balance between somber, cozy and ominous for me, and I loved how the creatures are from Nordic Folklore, so I recognized them.
A Dark Fairytale Metroidvania That Knows Exactly What It Wants to Be

🇺🇸 English 👍 Recommended 🎮 Introduction Oknytt immediately stands out because of its atmosphere. It doesn’t rush to explain everything—instead, it drops you into a strange, fairy-tale-like world inspired by Nordic folklore and lets you absorb it gradually. The first impression is calm but eerie, almost like stepping into a hand-painted dark storybook. It’s clearly not aiming for fast-paced gameplay, but rather a slower, more thoughtful experience. 🔥 Gameplay At its core, this is a puzzle-driven metroidvania with light combat elements. The focus isn’t on action, but on exploration, environmental puzzles, and unlocking new paths with acquired abilities. Backtracking plays a big role, but the world is designed in a way that makes it feel natural rather than repetitive. Combat exists mostly as a secondary system. It functions more as an obstacle than a highlight. The real gameplay loop is about observing your surroundings and figuring out how the world connects. What makes Oknytt stand out is how much of its progression is tied to environmental storytelling. Many soluti…

Good game, with interesting story, narration that is like a fairy tale and cool scandinavian folklore The screen is too dark by default so i recommend turnig the bright to max to be able to see all the interactive objects more easily Some puzzles are quite obtuse but the difficulty is all right
