The Land of Pain

I am sorry for giving this game a thumbs down, since it’s made by a solo dev (from the credits, the only other ppl listed worked on translation/proof-reading), and I give kudos to the dev. But the problem is that the game is tedious, mainly because of puzzles requiring you to go and back forward a lot. And calling them puzzles is a stretch since all require finding item A and get it to point B, that’s it, there was one where you gotta adjust pressure in pipes but that’s as complex as it will get. Next is the only enemy which can kill you, I will just say, that thing is so annoying, it doesn’t help that is one of those enemies which can smell you, so no matter if you run or walk it seems to start chasing you. It also does not help that the thing is a cloud, sometimes invisible, you cant even see where it is so you can avoid it. BUT, you can feel that those factors are just there for padding, otherwise it would be even shorter (btw, takes about 3 hours to finish). Also, I found a secret item, but there are no achievements or menus to see what they are, so I am not sure why such items are around. Anyway, I will play the sequel, The Alien Cube, because despite the tediousness I did …

Okay, I hate to thumbs down. But MY GOD there is just one tiny single little thing making this game completely unplayable for me. The environment is *gorgeous*, the story is very intriguing, the mechanics are fun to me, I enjoy the problem solving. I do NOT enjoy that the dev claims you can "hide", because no, you cant'. I've respawned like 8 times now at the same spot, during the first encounter with the "entity" which can always spot you and chase you forever. I've tried other routes, I've explored everything else first and avoided even going near it, and when I can do no more I try to go back and scout that temple thing..only to be hit again by the inevitable. If not for that one thing I'd say do yourself a favor if you like Lovecraft and walking sim horror, and buy this game. But because of this creature, I say respect your wallet and time until the Dev figures out a way to make it feel balanced. I wanna love this game so bad man.

meh, is not worth even free to be honest, i think you could get much better free to play games than this

A nicely told story with decent visuals and simple puzzles. A bit on the short side, though.

very mid walking sim lots of backtracking and going in circles lame chases and jumps that dont work, you fall, you run back, repeat the lantern is a lie, theres almost no enemies, but you're seen anyways with or without the lantern on

An OK walking simulator with a Lovecraftian theme - the checkpointing/save system was mainly reasonable with the occasional frustrating chase followed by death. A couple of suggestions: achievements would be nice (as always) and a way of seeing the secrets you have found. When I picket up a secret I have no clue what it is and if it had anything to do with the story. Rather short but a good length for the story, but sometimes it felt a bit aimless. Marginal recommendation.
