The Nameless City

a pretty short (about an hour) scary eldritch horror game. Though I would say this one isn't really trying to be scary with it's imagery. It's more about the story and the path towards the nameless city which is... somewahat underwhelming and more artsy and leaves a lot of things to be desired and upon the imagination. Well with all that said I can't say I was bored, just that I wish I could see more. The game's ending is satistactory enough, but again could have been done better, all in all this is a nice 3/5 lovecraftian pixel-ey game My rating: [b]3/5[/b]

Honestly shocking how short this turned out to be, while feeling much, MUCH longer. An absolutely bombardment of sensations, honestly felt somewhat ill while playing, the droning sound escalating the effect of the visuals. The landscape and the restricted FOV absolutely working miracles for the theme, really driving in home the maddening feeling. I adored this short journey into madness, even if it makes me physically sick somewhat. I think that support the narrative wonderfully. Could have been explored more, but I feel the story and mood would have suffered from a longer and more thorough exploration and more robust mechanics, so this is just about the perfect lenght.

Feels like I just played a Lovecraft novel...which I think was the point so good job!

The Nameless City is a Lovecraftian walking simulator with occasional bits of very light puzzle-solving, lasting under an hour. It's the kind of game that's more about the atmosphere than the gameplay, and it works well enough as far as it goes, but personally I would have liked more to do. At its best it gave me glimmers of Eternal Darkness, and I'd like to see more game added to the idea.

A very cool little game, especially if you are into Lovecraft. About an hour of gameplay, which may seem short but this is based on a short story so I appreciate that nothing was added. If you are familiar with Lovecraft or weird fiction in general, I think you will find this to be very in-line with the themes of the genre. A feeling of dread, a place best left forgotten. Very atmospheric, no enemies or jump scares. The low poly graphics are actually an interesting touch, but they could be a little disorienting at times. Also really appreciate the devs removing old genAI assets and their stance on AI in general.

it's difficult for me to find a way to talk about this game. enjoyable art direction, good voice acting, ear-ringing sound design, and, recently, they replaced any AI generated assets previously used. the issue comes down to the fact that i do not that most players would enjoy it. it is a walking simulator with some "puzzles" of using various glyphs given to the player to bypass or activate obstacles. it is much more enjoyable if you are a player who has read the original story, or you have an appreciation for lovecraft's weaker stories. it takes its own liberties, indeed, but i do not believe it fully grasps the fascinating parts of the original story other than some direct quotes. does this mean i didn't enjoy this? no, as i've given it a recommendation. i got to reread a lovecraft story i forgot, and i enjoy how it attempted to replicate the feeling. but like another user in these reviews said, lovecraft games hardly nail it, and i do not blame the developers whatsoever. i enjoyed the beautiful contrasts of purple and yellow, and i thought the glyph system was pretty cool despite being as simple as it was. there are interesting ideas here that would be fascinating to experie…
