Shadow of the Cherry Trees is a short, but sweet, family-friendly adventure. The artwork and music create a peaceful environment with full voice-overs. You control Hana, a young Japanese girl whose friend has disappeared into an enchanted forest. Gameplay is primarily a series of fetch errands as your progress is constantly blocked by a new character with a need. Some are human and some are animals. Your best strategy is to pick up everything because you will eventually need it. Each area is a single screen with objects or a character that can be interacted with. There are quite a few locations but the geography is easily mastered. As you gain access to new areas, you move closer to your goal of saving your friend, Yuki. The game does not auto-save. A beautiful graphic adventure set in a Japanese forest where nature spirits live to protect it. The story follows Hana, a young girl who receives a letter asking for help from her friend Yuri. Hana speaks with the villagers to learn how to free Yuri from the guardian of the forgotten temple that holds her prisoner. The forest spirits demand respect, and Hana must find gifts to offer if she wants to speak with them. A classic adventure with colorful, cartoon-style graphics. The puzzles are easy and involve helping others get useful items. The gameplay is a bit slow; you have to select the action you want to perform each time (walk, talk, observe, use). I would have preferred a more practical point-and-click system. The music is soft and pleasant. A help button for hints is missing, which can leave you stuck without knowing what to do.
