This is a mixed review. Cons: This game has fallen into the classic, modern retro-adventure game trap, by which I mean the puzzles are far too easy and its almost a walking simulator where you just click to advance. There is only one puzzle I can recall that has even a molecule of critical thinking involved (one involving a clamp). I have no idea why developers think the clientele for these sort of games is so dumb. What could have been a great game is turned into a 5/10 or so because there is literally nothing to think about. It's also a fairly short game, and it has no voice acting - although these two factors are more excusable, in my opinion, than the lack of thinking needed to finish the game. Pros: The Victorian London setting is beautiful as always - such a classic setting for adventure games. The music is also quite haunting and charming, which took me by surprise a few times (especially the very last scene of the game before the credits roll has some really nice piano music). The dialogue is quite good too, some witty humor, some good historical nods etc.4 found this helpful
except of the game with coins game is not that entertaining. About 10 years had passed and still no part two. If this game not having 90% discount, then it's a waste of money.
If you like point-and-klick adventures and/or pixel art games, please buy [i]The Slaughter[/i] Act I. At a discount, full price… both should support the one-man developer team. Yes, it might be that after 10 years we might never get an Act II but maybe if more people buy it (and review it) the developer will finish it. Ef not, I think you still will have around 3 hours of good entertaining fun in a great atmosphere and writing. Also, the developer placed some things in the perspective so that they seem to stand at the edge of the screen where you look “in” which I have never seen before and is kind of neat – and very well done. Yes, the baseline of the story as of the [i]The Slaughter[/i] as far as we get to see it in Act I has been told before: A murderer called “The ripper” kills prostitutes in London in the 1880s. You are an out of luck private investigator who gets dragged into the case… but the story told in a fresh way, the character interesting and sympathetic and the dialogue is exellent. So, please give it a try. I think you will enjoy it. Only thing that irritated is something about the movement of the protagonist… I am not sure but as far as I can say, I think h…
Truly great start and even if it's still unfinished worth buying. Support this guy, he made it on his own and did a wonderful job. Superb soundtrack. It's atmospheric and feels like an adventure game version of Alan Moore's Jack the Ripper story 'From Hell'. 7.5/10
