The Sound of Fireworks: The Haiku is a slice of life story of a girl struggling to adapt to a new living arrangement after moving out to a different place and a new school. This is a slow burn containing some drama and a lot of misunderstanding and insecurity, all linked to a traumatic event. Don't get this wrong, there are many wholesome moments and character development. Not only is this your typical text-based visual novel with character art, backgrounds and some music and sound. There's also some voice acting in the mix during most of the prominent events. For certain, this game is more focused on the friendship side rather than the romance, which is a preference I have. When done right, it can make the story feel more authentic and easier for people to connect to the characters if you prefer friendship-first before a romantic one. If you have played a few visual novels, you may realise this game isn't made with Ren'Py but with another engine, called VNMaker, meaning you can't backtrack and skip text when you want to. Short, first love teenage drama. It was supposed to be the first part of a trilogy but it seems it will be the only title. It is free at the moment and it is OK. It is well done and well written. Mostly for younger audiences.

"The Sound of Fireworks: The Haiku" is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game. This is square in the middle of what we should expect from garbage e-books on Steam. Yes, that's right, this is a high school anime club fanfiction about the author's imaginary anime girlfriend/waifu, who at least is 18 in this one. The most entertaining part about this cringey, badly written book is that the author genuinely thought people would pay money to read his cringe love letter to his imaginary girlfriend. So, so cringey.
