Players praise the game's solid performance, charming art style reminiscent of classic collectathon games, and enjoyable VR experience that doesn't overstay its welcome. However, several users report significant accessibility issues, particularly motion sickness triggered by visual effects like hit indicator vignettes, and wish for more customization options to mitigate VR discomfort in what is otherwise a well-made but brief experience.
I really enjoyed Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow. If you're a fan of stealth games, you'll likely really enjoy this. The levels are fairly small overall. I found each level took about 30-45 minutes to complete. While small, they were still enjoyable. There were a few hidden routes that lead to secrets and multiple paths you can take to reach your objective. They did a good job setting up minor things to keep an eye out for that could lead to something interesting while also not making it obvious. It really helped with the sense of discovery. The game is relatively short. I finished it in under 5 hours while exploring most but not all the crevices. If I found it, I explored the area, but I didn't go exploring for every nook and cranny. The AI was a bit weak overall for the guards but it's mostly at the point of when they spot you. If you're good enough at sneaking around and don't get spotted, you won't notice their flaws. It's mostly just the fact that they give up so easily, especially when you crouch through a hole. The only game design thing that I really didn't like was that stealing items basically just lead to a high score system. You'd get upgrades based on achieving certai…2 found this helpful
Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow demonstrates how effectively a classic stealth franchise can be adapted for virtual reality without losing its identity. Developed by Maze Theory and published by Vertigo Games, the title transports players back to the dark and unforgiving City, a place where corruption flourishes beneath towering structures and every shadow can serve as either refuge or danger. Instead of revisiting established heroes directly, the game introduces Magpie, a resourceful young thief whose life becomes entangled with a legendary artifact and the lingering presence of Garrett, the iconic Master Thief. The premise immediately establishes a bridge between the series' history and its future, creating an adventure that feels respectful of its roots while carving out its own path. Virtual reality proves to be a natural fit for the franchise's stealth-driven design philosophy. Players physically crouch behind cover, peek around corners, and reach into drawers and cabinets in search of valuables. Lockpicking becomes a hands-on activity rather than a simple minigame, while extinguishing lights and hiding in darkness reinforces the sensation of truly inhabiting a thief's role. I like the gameplay, but cutting the shop out of the game actually pissed me off. Like, you're saying that the money I steal has no purpose other than just being a score now. Thanks, I guess. also the combat could do with a little bit better physics because it feels so weighted to point where i'm trying to hit someone and it feels like i'm hitting them with a pool noodle. Also, I find it quite dumb that you have to have a specific angle just to parry something. If I hit the sword, I should just parry it. Why do you guys have to make it more difficult? For no reason!
every time i boot the game i want to close it. it is such a bad game, feels cheap and shallow.
I went into this game with good vibes but after 44 minutes I was sorely disappointed. I was really looking forward to this Game. I have never touched a Thief game and I have been gaming since the 70s. The issues I experienced were as follows: I was not able to get in or out windows easily, it was an extreme struggle. I the tutorial it worked I got to the introduction of the arrows and the water arrow tutorial would not produce the arrows and I could not get pass that section. I will be putting up a review soon on Youtube. I do not know what is going on with Vertigo Games but they need to get it together.
Very good VR game. Charming, and scratches the Thief itch. Recommend.
