This is a though one. Torn Away wants to be an anti-war game that follows a little girl during world war 2 that probably was inspired by the game "Valiant Hearts" that showed similar themes and gameplay. The story is about a woman and her child that get abducted to Germany to work in a labor camp. Even in Germany only people from the USSR will support them (with one notable exception) on their quest to go back home. You'll also find notes in the game about the fate of other USSR victims. USSR soldiers are only shown as heroes in this. The game doesn't really attempt to show suffering on all sides. The German civilians for example are shown as happy and well-fed in December of 1944; if you know something about history, then you'll know that they were heavily bombed, many faced starvation, many had lost family members in the war and I do think a true anti-war game would have to show the suffering and desperation on all sides, so people truly understand that war has zero winners and only losers. Also it is a failed opportunity to show, how Hitler got taken down. I just started playing the game. I am a sucker for the games which cause a deep mental disturbance and emotion. (This game was advertised as one.) The first chapter ("Home") is a bit slow. What I do not like is that the inner house environment of the 1940s feels like a modern one. It feels like the furniture, books, gramophone and so on are made from the modern materials. I do not feel the vibe of the old times. (For comparison, I could feel it in the houses of my grandparents in the 1970s.) There is no feel of dread. I will play more to see if it corresponds to the hype. EDIT. I finished the game, 5 playing hours. I would give the game the "good" mark (4 out of 5). I would still keep the words that I have written above. The game was a bit shallow, the feeling of dread did not materialise. I could not relate to the environment at all. It was not believable. Another point. The same land is now ravaged by the war again. There will be more handless boys in the future who'd lose them to the exploding mines. Amen.1 found this helpful

Beautiful story telling, went through the full spectrum of emotions and the final few reveals punch hard. Some of the chase/stealth scenes felt a little cheap with the way a torch would double-back or an unassuming piece of the environment would trip you, that felt unnecessary and just disrupted immersion rather than added to gameplay, but overall it was still a solid experience.1 found this helpful
Beautiful and tragic game. Tears were shed. I miss Comrade Mitten. Everyone play this game immediately.
The game is pretty good, but it fails to mention the true victims of WW2: Londoners who had to eat beans during the Blitz
