Touhou Chouhatsuyou ~ Burgeoning Tresses of Longevity

The tutorial is misleading (it's shift to focus and X to bomb), the HUD is small and difficult to read while dodging bullets, and the bullet patterns weren't very fun to dodge. The bosses can screen wrap but the player can't, and I don't know whether this was a glitch or a weird game design decision. If you play Marisa, your lasers might not move when you do. If you plug in any kind of controller, the game assumes you're using an Xbox controller. The writing and music weren't great either. You'd probably have more fun with an official Touhou game or some other free fan game, like Spellbroken Dream Festival or Wonderful Waking World. Burgeoning Tresses of Longevity is an interesting game ruined by an uncanny story. The damaku in the later levels is really fun and beautiful despite the hair theme's and I think the spell cards are cool. I love the arcade style it has going through it since I think touhou would work well as an aracde cabinet. The game is decently challenging and the graphics are beautiful and colorful, and the some of the tracks are pretty good, BUT THE STORY?! I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt from the intro alone, but I was unfortunately proven wrong by the dialogue. This has the writer's fetish written all over it, which is disheartening since it's a really fun game. It threw me off with the queen Marisa stuff, but I looked through it since the gameplay was fun and I have some pretty bizzare headcannons about gensokyo as well, but others would have that much forgiveness compared to me. Like Sanae hating long hair that much too the point of basically beating the ♥♥♥♥ anyone would say otherwise is hilarious too me but maybe be grating and mischaratization too others, and Marisa being tied down too a dude along with becoming queen is something can look away at but may tick off a bunch…

More or less the same kind of game as Song of Divine Tempest, just with a supernatural border system ala Perfect Cherry Blossom, making this one a little better to me compared to the previous game. If you're not good at Danmaku games or just want to experience the story, like SoDT you can play on Breezy mode, which gives you a life counter in lieu of lives. This makes the game feel a lot better, since you avoid a lot of the jank Classic mode had with its abrupt respawns, and the ability to tank bullets feels like a bandage over the hitbox issue the game still suffers. If you want to know more about how the game plays, check out my SoDT review, but just know, with this game, I don't know if this is an issue SoDT also had, but in BToL, bombs require both bomb stock AND power, which is really bad since if you have less than 1.00 power you literally cannot bomb even if you have bomb stock, and power gets hard to find towards the later half of the game, forcing you into a spot that makes things INCREDIBLY unfun and borderline unwinnable. The challenge of the bullet patterns themselves are fine, felt welcoming to newcomers to the genre while still feeling tricky towards the end. The …
