A New Retro-JRPG Inspired by Welsh Mythology
After her temple is raided, Carys finds herself at the mercy of Bleddyn, a Gwyllgi feared by society. But Carys finds that their differences only bring them closer - inspiring them both to seek answers to the events that led both their lives down a dark path. Toward Dawn features mythical beasts and themes inspired by Celtic legends - exploring the delicate subject of trauma and cycles of abuse that appear in such tales.Explore a vibrant pixel world, matched by a charming and memorable cast of characters while you experience the story in animated scenes. Upgrade your abilities with individual skill trees, while you craft equipment that bestow unique actions and traits, tailoring the characters to your preferred playstyle.
With a combat system partially inspired by the Grandia and Octopath Traveler, BREAK your enemies' poise, removing their action and making them vulnerable to high damage. There are no random encounters or forced grinding, the focus is instead on your tactics and how you have chosen to develop the characters.
Get to know the characters more by viewing optional Skits, be distracted with the Dragon's Guard cardgame, and meet a variety of colourful characters in sidequests!

Great RPG game heavily inspired by Welsh Mythology. The combat is fun, the upgrades available offer unique playstyles and also don't lock you in so you can change your setup at will if you find any cool gear, which there is lots that can change your playstyle up. The story is interesting and doesn't overstay or over exposit leading to an enjoyable runtime. The VA and Artwork are very beautiful and well composed, they all fit the theme very well and lead to a cohesive experience. It is very impressive for a solo dev, and is a good experience that I recommend.2 found this helpful
Toward Dawn is something that doesn’t come around very often, a turned based RPG with good pacing. The forward momentum of the narrative and character development, along with the wide range of skills and strategies, makes for a potent mixture that’s hard to put it down. I’m a dummy when it comes to turn based combat, usually hitting the basic attack, hoping the health whittles down to 0. This game however pulled me out of my comfort zone, helped me engage with its systems I wouldn’t normally understand. With each characters move set being tied to their personality and dynamics, I could clearly understand their place in the combat system and I think that’s pretty neat. The main cast is truly wonderful, with the main dynamic between Carys and Bleddyn being the obvious standout. Their gentle care for one another in light of their respective traumas is so well written that it’s impossible not to root for them. But overall the main reason I love this game is it made me feel things. The world is hostile and intolerant, but through finding your people and caring for them, the world can maybe slowly get better, like Clary’s says, it won’t happen in a day… also big wolf guys are cool a…2 found this helpful

Came for the "Did you want to bone-down with Blaidd from Elden Ring?" (and I love and appreciate the devs for the little nods and winks that show up in game to that!), stayed for the lovely (optional!) romance story with excellent writing and chemistry between the characters, challenging tactical combat with a surprising depth to it (that you can also tweak to your liking with good granular options!), and traversal that really rewards exploration through an altogether neat setting. Seriously hits the GBA game vibe and feel so well, up to and including a few unpolished bits in places that still overall didn't detract from my experience. If you're at all intrigued by it, you should play it!
Good Dog saves Wales + Combat is tactical and satisfying, refreshingly different from typical turn based RPGs + characters are interesting, likeable and engaging + story feels personal, not overly grandious but also has stakes + sprite work is lovely + Welsh mythology is a refreshing basis for a fantasy world + game respects your time, save anywhere and can restart fights if you lose - time limitations are apparent with cut/brief content in some areas - voice acting is variable, although Bleddyn himself sounds great so that's the main thing I'll definitely play the next devi serene game, they clearly have an instinct for satisfying combat systems and I'd love to experience a larger world!
HAYY! Just finished the game, and i enjoy it very much! I like the combat, and it lets you change your skill upgrades to so you don't ♥♥♥♥ your self over. I'm bad at explanting so i'm just going to do a 1-10 for a few things story (9-10) combat (7-10) funniness (7-10) some of the moments made me giggle. Cuteness (8-10) I love Carys and Bleddyn, There so cute together. Idwal is also a cute innocent boy
