Train Valley Origins is - like the title says - back to the roots. Finally an instalment that plays like the original Train Valley. I very much enjoyed it and after 15.7 hours and playing it through twice I got all achievements. Clear recommendation for everyone who enjoyed the first Train Valley game.2 found this helpful
Got it on a sale, there's the odd bug like trains exploding even when the path is correct but honestly had a great time with this. I completed the 40 campaign levels, replayed a few bits and got 17h from it so it's well worth the money. I wanted more at the end and that's a good thing. Less complex than TV2 and a bit more complex than TV1 which is the right balance for me personally. 7/101 found this helpful
Bug Report 1.Stopping a train on a bridge may cause the train to explode instantly. 2.Laying rails underneath a moving train can split the train in two. The rear carriage will despawn from the map entirely, while any switches the front carriage passes through will become permanently unswitchable for the rest of the playthrough. Even if the front carriage pulls into a station, no revenue will be awarded and the train unit will not be refunded.
Train Valley Origins is a game about crashing trains and manic hustle. Got through all 40 levels and made an attempt at getting all stars unsuccessfully in 15.4 hours using a keyboard and mouse. Train Valley 1 is a work of art where you have to plan where to place tracks depending on when trains are set to leave their stations. There's a level of appreciative grind and planning involved, and the tracks come together like clockwork. Train Valley 2 is more of a resource management game where you plot out where to send trains, pick up cargo, and then where to send that cargo. Also a good game, just in a completely different way using the same assets as its predecessor. I remember there were some faults in TV2 (like where to insert tracks into stations because the stations were blocked by pixels), but overall there were fun experiences to be had. Train Valley Origins tries to combine the first two. The art vibe of 1 with the item gathering and planning around the terrain of 2. Except this time the stations and where trains need to go is randomized each playthrough. And instead of stops to gather items, you are encouraged to drive through a variant checkpoint to get the le…
The game is relaxing and fairly easy. I never even crashed a train. But despite that, it just didn't click with me. One problem is readability. Many of the colors look too similar, so it's easy to send a train to the wrong station. Auto-scheduled trains are also easy to miss because there's poor indication that you need to launch them manually before small timer runs out. There are quite a few bugs too. Sometimes a section of track is highlighted in red, telling you that you don't have enough money to build it, but moving the mouse back and forth suddenly makes it build just fine. Building tracks can also get stuck repeatedly playing the error sound until you right-click. Bridges are another mystery. Sometimes you can build one, sometimes you can't, even on what appears to be the exact same terrain, same tile, same spot. It feels like there's an invisible obstacle blocking construction. The polish is lacking in other places as well. The tutorial even uses different types of apostrophes in its text. Train animations also look strange. They wobble around corners like they're about to tip over, and they constantly pulsate like cartoon trains. It's a very odd artistic choice, …
One more into collection. Not the best one, not the worst one, definitely better than a previous one :D.
