I liked the first two games in this series, but Trizeal sucks horribly. Distracting backgrounds, things floating around that look exactly like bullets, frame skipping, general ugliness, unreactive controls, and the switching between shot types gimmick doesn't really do much. I was bored for a the first few minutes, then I was frustrated, and now I don't even want to try Exzeal. This developer seems to have gotten worse over time, rather than improving.

I find the Zeal series to be fairly mediocre, but charming. Of all the games in the series, I was surprised to find I liked Trizeal the most. The gimmick of swapping your weapons is not mindblowing nor is it amazingly implemented, but it is just oldschool fun. I feel like the level design in this is Triangle Service at their best. Xiizeal is good too, for the record.

Worst part is the music. Best part? The gameplay is lifeless. Weapons are trash and I guess they were hoping to live off the transforming gimmick. Fail. Hard fail.

Trizeal is a unique shmup that was originally released back in 2005 for arcades and then ported to Playstation 2 and Dreamcast. The game is pretty straight forward as far as shmups go and features a gameplay system that allows you to transform into multiple different shooting styles on the go. The game features 6 stages in total and is definitely worth playing as I feel it's a great game that now has the chance to have new life on PC. The overall package I will say is pretty bare bones and I wish it did have a few more features like most modern shmup releases but they have done a really good job with the port as it feels good and plays smoothly which is good. I kind of wish there was some un-lockable artwork or something that digs a little deeper into the design history of this game as I always enjoy that kind of stuff and knowing the history and design behind classic games. The overall look and design is nice for a game of this time and the soundtrack is amazing, composed by Naoto. There are also a few extra features like support for replays and two player co-op support which is a nice option. The other features like achievements are really good, they are certainly uniqu…

Look... On second thought, don't look, because this game is seriously ugly.
