Tyrion Cuthbert: Attorney of the Arcane

In case 1 after the tutorial pop-up for investigations the game bugs out and doesn't let you interact with it. There's no ui and you can't open the menu or do anything, not even keybinds work. You can still see the old guy blinking so the game definitely didn't froze.

So, this was a pleasant surprise. I never played the Ace Attorney series or similar law-themed VNs, and instead approached this game with more of a fantasy or romance background. And I certainly got what I'd been looking for in this lovely title! Set in a gorgeous fantasy kingdom with an intricate yet omnipresent magic system, Tyrion Cuthbert fully commits to the bit by asking us to envision the real-life consequences of such a social hierarchy. The power differential between a magic-wielding aristocracy ruling over largely powerless commoners can only be considered the primary contradiction of Wyverngarde, and as our protagonist advances in his plans to fight the system from the inside, he is increasingly confronted with the rot at the heart of aristocratic society. If you're more into the romance than the politics angle of it all, then do not fret, for Tyrion Cuthbert grants us some truly spectacular relationship development between our two leads; as natural affection blooms between two deeply flawed characters who grow through the trials they face together, we bear witness to a slow-burning yet deeply rewarding love story. [i](Reviewing the 2026 version, not Classic)[/i] Giving Tyrion one aggregate Yes/No score is complicated - I've gone for negative here in answer to 'would you recommend this game?' but that doesn't mean it won't have value for people. Mechanically, I found it to be more nitpicky than its inspiration (Ace Attorney) especially in later cases, having to choose one piece of evidence when 2-4 are related to the point, and not always being sure whether we were going step-by-step though an event or if gearing up to make big leaps of logic. Luckily the game isn't very punishing, so there's not a lot of save-loading, and I don't think I was ever stuck at anything (bar one or two instances in the last case) for too long. In terms of its UI and audiovisuals, it was pleasing and easy to play. (As is often the case in anime-style games, I wish the characters were more diverse, and that the female characters' clothing had fewer skirt slits/highlighted cleavage/etc, but it's not the worst offender of its kind). ...But the biggest issue I had with the game was narratively.
