Underture

Underture is not a game. Games contain meaningful gamelike interaction and game loops, which are absent in this "art experience". Instead of being a game, Underture is a software application that presents a poorly made art exhibition. This garbage art exhibition represents a totally inaccurate NYC subway station... that's it. I guess the "art" part here is the absence of panhandlers, hobos and drug addicts. So, it's not good at representing any part of NYC, the art assets are deplorably low quality, and most importantly, it's not a game, and thus has been dumped on Steam to pollute the Steam store and make it even harder to find real games from genuine game developers (who are not art school dropouts). We get this non-game shovelware on Steam whenever your usual Starbucks barista/McDonalds frycook art school dropout finally gets a restraining order from the local art galleries so turns to Steam Direct to try get their art published somewhere so they can finally dream of moving out of their parents basement. Underture is a free VR experience. It worked on my system, sounded ok, looked ok, played. Take around 3 minutes, you have to play four times, to write a review. Basically, it is a 360 video of a woman playing a short song on an accordion, while standing in a subway station loading platform. After the song is over, the credits play. Not much else to do. Might be worth it if you like accordion music or music in general. Otherwise, pass it up if you don't like that.

Underture is a simple yet strong VR experience. As a new yorker, it felt familiar to being in the subways complete with the cracked and falling ceilings. Also, the rare opportunity where you'll get to be in a subway alone with no noise or trains coming :) Definitely more of a meditative experience and with the onslaught of games and other VR noise, I enjoy seeing something slower and simple as an experience. The music is beautiful and there's also something really cool about the recreation of acoustics in an empty subway tunnel. Recommended.
