Urban Chaos

Urban Chaos is my favourite childhood game of all time. I was born in 1999 and I was lucky enough to have an older brother that bought this game when I was growing up, I remember playing it when I was 5 or 6 years old and I was addicted to it. It is obvious that the game has aged quite a bit but it has that nostalgic charm every time you load into a mission. The atmosphere, voice acting, game mechanics and comedic moments really do have a soft spot in my heart. For a game released 27 years ago, it certainly was way ahead of its time. It was basically GTA 3 before GTA 3 came out. Not to mention the masterpiece of a soundtrack this game has! I love this game so much. It's unfortunate that my PC does freeze the game and crash after 10-15 minutes of playing a level and that is the only thing keeping me back from having more hours on this version of the game. If you can get past the dated graphics for its time it is very much worth the experience. I desperately want a remaster!

It was 1999. This game was, in my opinion, far ahead of it's time than most people even realize. The story, although a bit silly sometimes, was more than just two lines of script, and the game-play was something that up until that point, I have never seen in my life. Each level is a sandbox type of level, where you can drive, dance, talk to NPC's, climb buildings, find secrets, and explore to your hearts contempt... Also, I will say this, in 1999, female strong characters where not common and especially black female strong characters, and D'arci owes nothing to Solid Snake, Alucard, Jill Valentine, etc, in badassarie. Unfortunately the game does show it's age now, and due to Mucky Foot not being around anymore and the almost criminal under appreciation for the game, we will never see a proper remake or any easy fix to make it run on newer systems. If you can play it without comparing it to today's games, you will have a blast and most certainly be amazed by it, like I was, almost 20 years ago. This game has some technical issues depending on your PC. Given the low price, I suggest you still try it out if it interests you in a historical perspective because Urban Chaos did preshot a lot of stuff for a 1999 title, and even tho it has aged it can still be pretty fun. I encountered these issues and hope to help you there: - Max resolution was 1024x768p but I got more stability with 800x600p. - Restarting any mission after a fail resulted in a software crash. Solution: don't restart, reload your save. - After exactly 20min of play my game drops to a disturbingly low framerate (about 15FPS). Not unplayable to finish a level but definitely a handicap, and quite annoying. I read someone fixed this with W98 compatibility mode but this caused an audio issue for me so I didn't try further. As with the previous issue, reloading or finishing the level fixes it (for the next 20min). gl hf

This is one of my favorite childhood games, but it constantly freezes in the middle of levels and you have to force quit and start over. Super frustrating with no resolution.

Horrible port, the game is unplayable, constant crashs.
