Valiants: Arena is a pretty enjoyable turn based card battler that mixes creature collecting with team building and elemental strategy. I put together a team of Valiants and take them into two versus two battles, with the ability to swap between them during the fight. I liked the basic idea straight away because there is more going on than simply choosing an attack every turn. I have to think about which Valiant should be active, what my opponent might do next and how I can make the most of my team. The switching mechanic is probably my favourite part of the combat. Having a team rather than controlling a single creature means I can change my approach when the situation gets difficult. The Valiants are split into Tank, Attack and Support roles, so building a balanced team makes sense. I enjoyed trying different combinations and working out which characters cover each other's weaknesses. It makes the battles feel more tactical without becoming too complicated to understand. The elemental system adds another useful layer. Valiants can have elemental affinities such as Fire, Water, Earth, Ice, Wind and Grass, and these can interact with the skills I choose.
