VideoHole: Episode II

OK I don't want to oversell it, but like: this feels like an all-timer? If anything it's like, the ur-example of putting all the polish where it matters and none where it doesn't (even if, as of this writing, it really really could've used some more time in the bug-testing oven, at least)... If you play games to relate to a bunch of weird characters and dig through their feelings, this will probably be a treat for you, even if some of the segments will probably try your patience (I feel like I have an obligation to warn people that the last chunk of the game is *a masocore first-person jumping platformer* where you aren't even told where to go next???).... I don't know; I like games that are intensely personal without being offputting, and this really feels like that. It's hard to say if this is something that I would rush to tell random people to make time for, but like, I can say that it's something that's going to stick with me for a long time, and I'm not sure what else there is to ask for but that. okay i initially posted a short review because i really liked what i played of the intro, but i am deeply susceptible to motion sickness in first-person games so i wasn't sure i'd be able to finish it. like physically. thankfully squishing the windowed mode down to 720p helped a lot. anyway: this is unironically and genuinely really, really good. i'm sitting here kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up and in my feelings about a character named "slime jr." it's spec ops: the line for media crit. it's doing incredibly cool ♥♥♥♥ with metanarrative and characterization. the art is really charming, the music is great. this is going in my favorites folder and i wish there was a way to express my enthusiasm that didn't spoil the delightful way in which this thing unravels. i will note: this is an indie game and a labor of love so act 3 gets a little buggy and i did find myself a little confused and lost in gameplay once or twice, but not in away that impacted my very, very positive experience otherwise.

For a long time I've been searching for a game that will tell me what to do if one of my employees joins a band. I'm not sure if this game will do that, or what this game *is* doing, but it's very intriguing. It starts off as a somewhat straightforward set of locked doors and keys but quickly becomes something else entirely. I'm very much looking forward to where it goes.

This game was absolutely incredible. The first part was just a small appetizer to the wild, creative, surreal adventure of this game. It was one of the biggest gaming surprises I've ever had. Combine the art style of Killer 7, with the humor of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, with old school adventure puzzles and even more surprises, and you have this game. Highly recommended! Get the two pack to experience the first game before this one.
