About Virgo Versus The Zodiac

Virgo Versus the Zodiac is a sci-fi/fantasy JRPG inspired by the Mario & Luigi RPG series and the Mother RPG series in which you play as an obsessed villain.

The game features traditional turn-based combat with real-time execution of moves: blocking, countering and timing your attacks carefully as well as predicting your foes' moves is essential to succeed in Virgo’s twisted and unforgiving cosmic quest to bring back the Golden Age, a period of peace, symmetry and balance, or so she thinks.

In this galaxy where every action means a reaction, you’ll play as Virgo, the Holy Queen, often called Dreadful Queen by heretics, bringing mayhem to the Zodiac Realms and leaving a trail of stardust on the way, all to fit her excessively righteous worldview.
 • A unique turn based combat system featuring timed-actions and counterattacks that favors a balance of offense and defense, rewarding a deliberate mind and swift fingers.
 • No Random Encounters: Every fight is a unique challenge designed specifically for you.
 • A focus on exploration with multiple endings: There are many people, places, and items to see among the stars, and each interaction could be the one that determines your fate!
 • Zodiac Memories: Peer behind the veil to explore the backstories of the Zodiacs!
 • Take the Dangerous Route and fight off the Space Reptiles in an optional Action Filled Shoot'em Up Minigame!
 • And most importantly: Riding Alpacas!

First, if you've played and enjoyed Keylocker, get this, because it's very similar.

This game is a story that's a mixture of silly and tragic. Most RPGs I think kind of ignore that you've killed a ton of people, but this game points it out to you and calls out the protagonist on her hypocrisy. It's interesting because you can fall in love with a realm and all its humorous denizens, and then end up destroying it all. The protagonist is arguably the villain depending on your perspective. In terms of gameplay, it uses turn-based combat where successful defense and offense depends on how well you do in a QTE. The type of QTE depends on the type of attack, how easy it is depends on your speed stat vs the enemy's, and which button to press depends on who is attacking or defending. By default, on an Xbox controller, Virgo is the A button, Algol is B, and Spica is X. Combat also has a sort of rock-paper-scissors system to add some depth, with Ambition being strong against Mutability, Mutability against Patience, and Patience against Ambition. Weapons and shields all have one of these traits. Additionally, all weapons and shields have one or two special effects, li…

Virgo vs The Zodiac is a weird, memorable game. It's like if some tumblr girls decided to make their own Paper Mario and believe me I mean this in the best way possible. Pastel colored goddess decides that she's right about everything and it's time to start purging the impure. Combat is thrilling. You have 3 attacks and a guard action which grants temporary HP (purity}, and anyone who gets attacked while they have more than 0 purity gets a counter attack action. Oh, I should mention your actions are determined by your gear, and your counters are completely different than your standard turn actions. Yes you have a counter-guard. There is also a bit of elemental rock-paper-scissors that you get bonuses to based on your dialog and plot choices. Anyway during one boss fight I guarded an attack and immediately took off half its health with a counter, only for it to use a healing item on the next turn. Fun stuff.

This game has my favorite turn-based combat ever, to the point where i'm considering making a TTRPG based on its combat system. It has dynamic timing-based combat systems, with a lot of customizability, gear that gives you entirely new abilities and which you can change anytime, a row system (for example you go to the front row if you use a melee attack, and you can only target the front row with melee attacks) status effects, etc. This ♥♥♥♥ is so fun i often restart fights to see how they could go another way or to beat them while taking less damage. I like the story/dialogue too, but the combat is the highlight for me.

Lovely rpg with humour that worked on me A LOT. Tons of secrets to find, the fights feel nice and the story gets DARK really fast sometimes. Loved this one !
