Warriors of the Nile 2

Easily recommended for fans of turn-based tactics and roguelikes. No story but the battles/game loop are fun enough to carry it several runs. Buying characters and base upgrades lets you feel like you are making some progress even when the run doesn't turn out. Some of the genre-staple unwinnable battles until you unlock a few things. Great variety of classes that all play differently.

What I like the most about this game is how each tablet upgrade is quite impactful on how you play your character. Not like many other strategy game which only about number upgrade and everything become boring real quick.

Warriors of the Nile 2 is a fast turn-based roguelike strategy game where you lead a squad of three Egyptian warriors to repel invading Roman legions. It’s a satisfying tactical experience with plenty of build variety, though it’s light on story. What’s good: A clear improvement over the first game, with more unique character classes and deeper progression. Addictive turn-based combat combined with a roguelike progression loop, offering lots of build variety through skill “tablets” and character abilities. Short, replayable runs with meaningful choices, such as routes and upgrades. What’s meh: The early game can feel slow until you unlock permanent upgrades and stronger units. Very little story. Overall, it’s a hidden gem for fans of tactical roguelikes (like Into the Breach), especially if you enjoy discovering powerful combos to cheese enemies.

Pleasantly surprised by how good this was. More of a tactical strategy based roguelike. You only control 3 units the entire game and each has 3 different forms, with two different base weapons each, so there's good variety in your party. The game definately feels a little slow and grindy at the start as you need grind out some progression, but after a while with good upgrades I started clearing back to back runs with increasing difficulty each time. I didn't aim to finish the game on the hardest difficulty as it requires you to beat the previous increment of difficulty before the next is unlocked (there are 22 levels of prestige/ascension). Albiet after the 5th difficulty you jump difficulty increments by 2, i didnt want to play an extra 10 runs which are at minimum 45-60 minutes if you have an OP build and rush. The final boss of the 4th map is kind of a joke with how absolutely OP and ridiculous the difficulty spikes, you need a broken build to beat it. (I broke the game stacking Lion Brawler and was summoning 8 lions a turn with +90dmg). TLDR: A fun but somewhat shallow Tactics Roguelike with a great style. No DLC or microtransactions, a complete package. Relaxing when it goes your way. This game is a roguelite in the Slay the Spire mold. You proceed from room to room on the event map as you travel toward the boss of the layer. Most events are battles made up of different enemy configurations with a few more complex Elite encounters thrown in, while others are different shops. Combat is tactical grid board, with each unit as a piece. The enemy rooms and bosses are all pre-designed and there's some interesting abilities and configurations with a hand-crafted feel to challenge different types of units. As you add more difficulty modifiers during your runs different types of randomization will begin to creep in: buffs, extra enemies, shields, and so on. Different battles reward different types of drops so you are often forced to choose based on the merits of the reward against the enemy difficulty. Although this is a tactics game, your units are very simple to control. All you can do is move them, attack with them, and optionally activate their special power if charged up.
