[b]TL;DR You won't regret getting this if you hunger for more Advance Wars[/b] [h3]First off, the bad news[/h3] - [b]Don't expect much in the way of multiplayer,[/b] as there just isn't enough of a player base to make it happen at the time of writing. My review is solely based on the single player experience. - Two missions are grindy, many are a bit too easy depending on your taste. Do try Brutal difficulty straight off the bat as I believe it will give you a better overall experience as you progress. You can always lower it for the hard missions. - There are a few missions where you have an unsatisfying deus ex machina of the opponent scoring a significant victory despite your efforts, or with surprise additional troops appearing with no warning - Perhaps I missed something obvious, but there isn't a reliable way to see the enemy CO's charge meter, which is VERY significant in some later missions. You can still roughly guess what will happen. - Some CO powers have balancing issues, especially those that reward metagaming on the part of the player (massive area blasts and unit mindcontrol whose targets are reliably predictable). Very neat gameplay with a bit more depth than it looks like on the surface. Great art which makes you feel the impact of units fighting. Can be somewhat of a pain on the highest difficulty, but it's pretty satisfying to finally crack a mission. Campaign as a whole, however, is more of a letdown. Story is very generic, and some of the final missions leave a slightly sour taste. They have friendly factions join you, which makes turns take a lot longer, and these factions are much dumber compared to enemy AI and become more of a liability than help. And another side note, PC controls are very poorly thought out and are unintuitive. But overall combat overshadows the game's negatives, would recommend.1 found this helpful
This is a great game. It scratches the Adv. Wars itch while still being its own entity. I enjoy the characters and abilities that don't feel too overwhelming, but a nice edge for a turn or two. My only gripe is I wish the characters didnt feel so vanilla. If there is ever a sequal, it would be cool if the main character could be one that you create yourself. So if you go pvp there is a little spice to the MC. Its a petty grievance and I admit, but overall fun game.1 found this helpful
