WatanOS

"WatanOS" is a very weak abandoned Early Access attempt to make a ripoff of games like Pony Island, at face value a "desktop simulator", with a creepy puzzle game underneath. It failed, gamers just weren't interested in a poor idea implemented poorly. The developers abandoned this 1 year and 7 months ago. It will never be completed. This unfinished game is just polluting Steam and making it harder for gamers to find genuinely, completely made games. The game features really lacklustre 2D visuals (does the developer not know 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid-1990s?). Gamers don't spend thousands of dollars on gaming rigs and the latest 3D graphics cards to play 2D games. Even mobile phones and game consoles can do 3D graphics now. There's no excuse. This isn't exactly free, it's misleadingly been advertised that way, but the developer intends to turn this into donationware/beggarware with an expected $5 "donation"... digital panhandling. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 11 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. cool graphics, could be really cool and got some nice puzzles, but has no real story while trying to be spooky with random images... would be really awesome if it had some real story !

This game is too buggy and creaky to really rattle my bones effectively.

The OS and Web simulation is good enough to get the job done, though it could stand a little more UI polish for convenience such as multi-select and download. And the HTML viewer only shows you a specific section of the HTML. Other than that, it works a lot like the old Web game where you had to figure out a password or URL hack to advance to the next puzzle/website. It has the same problems, though, such as the puzzle not being specific and logical, or yielding only partial clues. On the plus side, this one has hints, so you don't end up hopelessly stuck. I would say if this ever gets more development it should have the UI capabilities extended a little, and a few people collaborating together on the puzzles to make enough of them and make them solid so they can be clearly understood without turning to the hints too early. I don't wholeheartedly recommend it right now, but I do recommend it for the future as it was going in the right direction.
