Wildheart Gourmet

A beautiful educational exploration game with great worldbuilding! The visuals are lovely and carry a lot of charm, not just in the hand-drawn artstyle with its earthen colour palette but also in the interface. Text is displayed in various areas of the screen on different occasions instead of one set area, which is quite nice! Each screen is also very interactive, not just due to the point&click elements but also due to the image shifting slightly with the movement of the cursor. In addition to that the music is quite soothing and matches the visuals nicely in atmosphere. There is quite a bit of interactivity, which is simple yet engaging and quite well done in how it teaches about the different plants. It is also quite fun when you recognize a plant you might have seen growing outside before and get to learn more about. Granted personally I would have liked a more even split between the food mini-games and medical plants quizzes. Nevertheless the biggest draw of this game, next to the educational aspect, is arguably the story and more so the worldbuilding, so much so that I don’t want to spoil anything about it. A fun little game that caters to some of my very specific interests. It's pretty short, not unexpectedly. I would be very excited to see if this studio has anything like this planned for the future with a larger variety of biomes and available forage.

"Wildheart Gourmet" is a glorified browser/Flash game (I know it's made with the crappy Godot 2D engine which has never been used to make a successful game, but it might as well be Flash) that the developer wants to get paid for. This browser game in exile has you clicking and dragging your mouse around to pretend to "forage" and prepare food by clicking through some web pages, which the game is fundamentally presented as. It's obviously unengaging due to this incredibly primitive interface... remember, we're here on Steam for PC games. For gameplay purposes, because the user interface for this game is mostly just 2D static text/images... it might as well be a web page. It's functionally no different from a browser game. And we all know, Steam isn't here to compete with Chrome and Firefox. If the game can be done in a web browser, it's just not rich or compelling enough to appeal to serious gamers on PC. The game features really lacklustre 2D visuals (does the developer not know 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid-1990s?).
