Yearning

Good news first, it works out quite well for a horror game. It has the good old Silent Hill feel of enviroments that are both normal and surreal. I found the mystery of the plot nice (though I kinda guess the answer early), and more than once it was somewhat fairy tale like. And the art I quite nice too. Bad news, I really wish I could run. Rin's walk is painfuly slow, and you will get to feel that as you explore. And while the atmosphere is quite good, broken english in dialogue and descriptions tended to make me chuckle a bit more than once. This game is still worth playing despite this. The atmosphere is great for a horror game and the story is nice to experence. While it does feel like horror games are dime a dozen, this game is well worth your time.

I really loved the game! The atmosphere was great and I really liked the art style, felt very unique. The lantern's radius also created a lot of suspense as I was exploring and the background sounds and music really added to the suspense and creepy factor in the various locations. I loved theorizing about the story and what everything meant as I went (All of my theories were wrong by the end though haha). The English translations could have had better grammar but I still found it easy to understand what everything was trying to say so this wasn't a big deal to me. Using the stairs in the storehouse however can be a bit tough, and it took me a few tries moving back and forth pressing and holding z to get it to work but it eventually did, if anything that would be my only real gripe. Overall this was a great and very enjoyable experience and I highly recommend it!

Yearnings stylistic choice and sound design is great, but as other reviews point out, its extremely slow. There is no sprint and you have to backtrack many times, even more so if you miss something, and that becomes very tedious. A lovely atmospheric game that just makes you as uneasy as Rin. Even if you kind of can see the ending from a mile away, I was still on the fence on what Rin was, exactly- but the ending was lovely. The bits and pieces of Japanese folklore were also nice touches- for instance, I didn't know that there was the concept of items that are used repeatedly and cherished are believed to have souls in them. As someone who has kept many objects from childhood because I just can't let them go, this is a lovely sentiment, and to be honest, I teared up a little bit of at the final scene as well as the achievement that popped up.

Love this 2d Little game, a bit challenging but overall super nice 💝

I know that a lot of reviews here mentioned the weird English translation and such but for me it doesn't really make the gaming experience worse. The game play is pretty good. Got stuck at how to get to the place to put the flowers for like an hour and eventually got through. The game is not difficult at all but the sound atmosphere is great! Highly recommend to play with a gaming headset to enhance the experience even more. Yes, it's 2D. But it can give you a scare all the same.
