✦ AI summary

The Farmer Was Replaced impresses players as an engaging programming puzzle game that works well for both beginners and experienced coders, with particular praise for how it evolves from isolated puzzles into complex system-building challenges that feel satisfying to solve. Common complaints center on pacing issues for experienced programmers, who may find the game's depth exhausted after a few hours and the endgame less compelling than the journey there.

I came into The Farmer Was Replaced with good bit of programming experience (started at 16), so I got through it way faster than a beginner should (about 17 hours to 100%, no outside solutions, I did quit the game when I felt stuck). It kept surprising me with how open-ended it made programming feel, even when the problem seemed very constrained at the start. Two unlocks stood out. Senses exponentially increased what a drone could actually do. Megafarm did the same thing one level higher. Once every crop and mechanic had to share the farm space and time efficiently, the best strategy got hard enough to find that working it out felt genuinely satisfying.* The game really shines when it stops handing you isolated puzzles and starts asking you to build systems. I felt that most while maximizing polyculture, especially while running full resets where the whole upgrade path had to bootstrap itself, and while juggling sunflowers, water, modes, and 32 drones across a 32x32 farm. Mazes were a highlight, because more parallelism stopped being an automatic win. How many mazes should exist at once? How many drones per maze? When does extra concurrency stop helping? My first snake and maze a…

very nice game. i love it.

It's ok. Fun for a few hours. If you're a proficient coder, you'll have things well designed and streamlined pretty early on, so the later developments aren't especially interesting. The end game feels like it starts after just a few hours and seems to want to run for a long time, but I'm not sure I'll get back to it. Overall, fun for the price, but not a huge value.

Great whether you already know programming or are completely new to it. The game feels fun, with lots of rewarding objectives. Highly recommend for anyone interested in programming, new or experienced. Worth the money and time.
