✦ AI summary

METAL GEAR SURVIVE is a divisive survival game that borrows Metal Gear mechanics but struggles with its identity as neither a strong Metal Gear title nor a standout survival game. Players praise the base-building and cooperative multiplayer elements when functional, but criticize poor progression systems, counterintuitive design choices like requiring online connectivity for a primarily single-player experience, and an endgame that becomes a tedious grind.

It's definitely not as bad as people claim it to be, but also not as good as people like me would tell you. Metal Gear Survive has a very infamous reputation, for various reasons, and none of them good. The game released in 2018, 3 years after Hideo Kojima and a lot of staff from then in-house studio Kojima Productions, with what many speculate to be a very tumultuous break-up. Prior to that, Konami has been slowly pivoting their business strategies towards the booming mobile gaming and Pachinko market, leading to a downturn in quality with other IPs, like the Silent Hill series, which Kojima was also supposed to work on with the now-cancelled 'Silent Hills', the only relic that proves its existence being the now-delisted P.T. demo released on PSN. Understandably, this pissed off a huge chunk of their fanbases, especially those who liked anything and everything Kojima-related. This sentiment still lingers on, but it was pretty significant especially during the release of Metal Gear Survive. That coupled with the paradigm shift in Konami's priorities led to the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that is this game. Fortunately, I am neither a shill nor a fanboy to tell you it's either of two extremes—good o…

Edit: only now have I realized that _you cannot play this game offline_. Whenever Konami decides to pull the plug, that's it. You're buying into a sinking ship, one that had holes deliberately poked into it (It's primarily a single player game ffs, what were they thinking). Also the game unlocks 4 new classes after you finished the main story and (seemingly) you cannot use their perks in singleplayer. I continue to be baffled by this game's decisions. It makes me want to play a better survival game. You probably know this already, but this is not a Metal Gear game. Think of it as it's own thing before moving on. I'm not an expert on survival or base builders, but if I had to guess, this is far from the best representative of the genre. Don't get me wrong, I am having some fun, but that is in spite of it's very bland story, shallow combat, unengaging traversal mechanics, lack of enemy variety, predatory monetization, and most of all, the fact that the game will very often crash when switching between keyboard and controller, even briefly to, say, tab out to something else. The core of building up a base and crafting and managing resources and personnel is actually pretty compell…

This game just sucks as a Metal Gear Game and a Survival Game The Progression of getting you used to the game is ASS, Booty, unbelievably bad like your first ever Fast travel Mission the game just throws absolutely Sinks and Books at you starting out i see why they are not trying to make another MGS game this is just bad

Pretty fun game that shares the same mechanics of metal gear solid but with zombies, base building and survival. Game is a bit hard but can be easy if planning ahead and being prepared before going out and collecting stuff and killing zombies, Just wish there was more people that play the game on multiplayer since it's really fun with friends
