About Obduction

✦ AI summary

You're transported across the universe to an alien world filled with Earth fragments from different times and places, where you must explore mysterious landscapes, solve environmental puzzles, and uncover secrets through careful observation. Your choices shape the story and determine whether you can find your way home in this visually stunning sci-fi adventure from the creators of Myst.

Now also playable on Oculus Rift!
Note: This is a visually lush and detailed game. Playing in VR takes full advantage of higher-end systems - please refer to its minimum and recommended specs.

From Cyan, the indie studio that brought you Myst, comes a new sci-fi adventure.

As you walk beside the lake on a cloudy night, a curious, organic artifact falls from the starry sky and inexplicably, without asking permission, transports you across the universe. You’ve been abducted from your cozy existence and added into an alien landscape with pieces of Earth from unexpected times and places.

The strange worlds of Obduction reveal their secrets only as you explore, discover, coax, and consider their clues. As you bask in the otherworldly beauty and explore the enigmatic landscapes, remember that the choices you make will have substantial consequences. This is your story now.

Make it home.

✦ AI summary

Obduction is a puzzle game with an engaging narrative that clearly aims for challenging gameplay, but players are divided on whether it achieves its goal. Common complaints center on unclear objectives, awkward controls, obtuse puzzle design that leaves players lost rather than satisfied, and outdated mechanics by modern standards. While some appreciate it as a solid Myst-like experience worth playing, others suggest newer alternatives like Firmament might provide a better experience.

The developers very clearly succeeded at making a difficult puzzle game... What they failed to do was create an experience that feels good and is actually fun. There's a huge difference between: "This is difficult, but I really want to figure it out." and "I have spent hours wandering around and I don't even understand what the game wants me to do." The first one makes you obsess over a puzzle because there's a little reward loop happening in your brain: WAIT... I SEE SOMETHING... Then you solve it and feel like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ genius. The second one is just walking around going: "Can I interact with this?" No. "This?" No. "Maybe there's something over here?" No. "Okay, but what am I actually trying to accomplish?" ¯\(ツ)/¯ And eventually your brain goes I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR STUPID SECRET ANYMORE. Not worth your time, energy, or patience. GRIND<3

controls are awkward and one crucial hint doesn't even happen like it's supposed to. Overall its a fun myst game but it has a lot of sloppy elements that kill the fun
Recommended Sep 28, 2026
It's a great narrative, and mostly the game challenges are not unreasonably complex. I did need hints on a few occasions, though.
Not recommended Sep 27, 2026
The game is showing it's age, it was too difficult to navigate and the snap turning is flawed by modern standards. Try Firmament instead, it's a fantastic game!

Awesome game

You know what I liked it. Obviously not the best of Cyan's games but it was still really good!
