  • "More, please!"
    - Kotaku
  • "\ it more than succeeds in creating a wonderfully eerie atmosphere full of childlike anxiety, and along the way tackles a serious subject in a darkly poignant manner."
    - IGN
  • "Its depiction of a first-person horror told through the eyes and stumbling little legs of a two-year old is as intriguing as anything I've seen all year, and reminiscent of a time when games actively sought out new ways to play and new stories to tell."

    ✦ AI summary

Among the Sleep - Enhanced Edition has a charming premise and emotional story that surprises players with its depth, featuring a consistently spooky atmosphere that works well despite modest scares. However, the Enhanced Edition suffers from significant technical issues including broken saves, checkpoints, controller problems, and progression bugs that can make it unplayable without workarounds, creating a frustrating experience that undermines the otherwise engaging narrative.

I'm playing through my steam library in mostly alphabetical order and thought it would be fun to give short steam reviews for each game if I would recommend them or not. So, this has been sitting in my steam library for nearly a decade (maybe actually longer with the original?) and finally through this little project of mine I've gotten to it, and I'm glad to say it's quite good! I won't spoil anything in this review, but the game which seemed reltatively straight forward in the beginning actually managed to surprise me towards the end, and the story was deeper than I thought, The actual horror aspects aren't really all that "scary" (except for a jumpscare or 2 that got me cuz I'm a jumpy fellow) however it's got a phenomenal spooky vibe that it keeps strong throughout the game, which is all well and good in my book, not every horror game needs to be alien isolation, it *can* just be creepy aura and some halloween feels too. I won't dive into the gameplay much, as it's relatively standard horror puzzle game stuff, though the movements and animations are genuinely great at making you feel like a little baby man, which is a strong point of the game. I'd give it a 7/10 in overall en…

Cutting to the chase, this game is a technical disaster and my experience is that it’s completely broken and unplayable without editing files. There were a ton of issues, including my controller not working until I enabled Steam input, multiple instances of getting stuck, no saves, no checkpoints, broken progression, some minor graphical issues, and triggering issues for climbing. I’m not sure if some of these issues were due to my system or specifically the enhanced edition, but it looks like the original is no longer available. My biggest problems were checkpoints and save states. I got stuck at the end of level 2 and had to force close the game. You have to play entire chapters in one go, which isn't a big deal, but the save system is inconsistent. I played level 3 and was sent back to the start of level 2. Restarting the game reset my progress entirely. To fix this, you can edit the save files manually: 1) Navigate to Users<your_user>\AppData\LocalLow\Krillbite Studio\Among The Sleep\ 2) Open the folder containing profile.json and open the json file in a text editor. 3) Reference "reachedCheckpoints" to figure out where you last were. 4) Update these fields: completedMain…

God, what a throwback. Playing this game was like overdosing on dopamine from the nostalgia. I hope the studio still makes games.
