✦ AI summary

Disciples: Liberation is a dark fantasy tactical RPG that players find has an engaging story and world-building, though opinions sharply divide on its execution. Common complaints center on repetitive battles, limited unit diversity despite initial variety, minimal hero mechanics, and a grindy progression system that frustrates players early on, while those who persist report the late game becomes more enjoyable and the ending delivers.

A turn-based RPG that takes a different approach from the usual party management, allowing you to command large numbers of expendable troops. This creates a lot of possibilities and makes the game more forgiving, although many units end up feeling quite similar. Unfortunately, the game starts to lose steam fairly early and becomes excessively stretched towards the end. The story and dialogue are also a major weakness, with uninteresting writing, poorly handled humor and romance. Come for the gameplay, not for the story. 100% Steam Achievements Time: 109H Completion Difficulty: 2/10 Playthrough: 2 Missable: No Guide Recommended: No DLC Required: No Online Required: No Notable Requirements: Complete the quests of all secondary characters, reach level 80, which requires New Game+.

I went from ambivalent to loathing in about 30 hours, it's a genuinely poor example of the genre. Disciples Liberation, henceforth known as DL, is a game that struggles to have a clue what it really wants to be. It can't decide if it wants to be a Mobile Game, a PC game, a comedy, a dark comedy, a teen movie, a horrific dystopia, serious, or a meaningful choice simulator. It tries to do all of these things, and manages about none of them. It's actually quite impressive how often it hurts itself in its confusion. Meaningful choices and dialogue are undermined by really forced relationship choice prompts which don't feel earned, and teen movie style drinking and "relatable" dialogue which generally seems forced, and hedonistic for hedonism's sake. The game has resource management, but not anything more than pulling resources from contained pieces out on maps, or capturing buildings that produce it while playing. Of course, those are in game times, not real world timers, and you have to dip back to the "city" to claim them at their caps so you can add them to the inventory to actually use. It's tedious. And tedium, is EVERYTHING. The default animations are slow, the battles are s…

Other than the title, this game has completely lost the identity of the original Disciples series. The gameplay mostly consists of moving around and endlessly selecting dialogue options. If I wanted a text-heavy interactive RPG, I would have bought one. Great job ruining a classic franchise

Not the worst sequel in old series, but certainly far from glorious revival. Disciples was an interesting twist on HOM&M formula, a lot of mechanics were similar - you had your town that could be built up with bunch of structures that improves economy, magic, units and map too had lots of places of interest - dungeons, treasures guarded by enemy forces etc. There also were neutral towns, that could be garrisoned after capture and use shop and healing. Combat and movement on map were turn based too - so same as in Heroes. But some things were quite different - there was a lot more engagement with plot - cutscenes during missions, more between them. There were no 999 stacks, emphasis was on development of units you had - they got exp and after reaching max lvl, if you had constructed necessary building, you could evolve it, some units had no improvements like that, but some could do it several times. Each faction had kinda their own specialty, some had multiple evolution melee, another mages, next one ranged. Oh, also combat in first 2 titles was done jrpg style - there was no movement around battlefield, just two sides taking turns, third game did include tactical field with mane…

I was a bit put off by the run-of-the-mill fantasy setting, that I grew out long ago, but the game is actually fun and with the right amount of challenge and interesting art takes. Reccomended.
