✦ AI summary

Whispers of a Machine is a sci-fi noir detective story with an interesting premise and some clever deduction mechanics that players praise for its atmosphere and voice acting, but many feel it suffers from weak writing, uninspired puzzles, and an abrupt ending that undermines the narrative potential. Technical issues like crashes also detract from the experience, and players note there are better alternatives available for the roughly 7-hour playtime.

game is meh. It does not have a strong theme. The writing and voice acting is pretty bad and the puzzles are not clever. The game has some alterative solutions and different endings but it is just not interesting enough to play it again. There are better alternatives to spend roughly 7 hours on.

After Kathy Rain, I had big hopes, especially because I love sci-fi, but the game did not deliver. The game felt empty, one could click on many thing but there were no fun responses or happenings. The story and setting had so much potential and then the game just ends abruptly. Deciding the ending was like a slap in the face , game ends, no consequences.. felt like a cliffhanger and they want me to buy the sequel in the future

Recommended. A post-collapse Nordic-noir point-and-click detective story that trades action for interrogation loops, paper trails and light RPG personality builds, and the deduction delivers consistently. The forensic scanner's smart-scan flags anomalies on-site, the biometric analyser gives dialogue a mechanical tell-system, and the personality build (empathetic, assertive, analytical) changes augmentations and available solutions (muscle boost, enhanced vision, invisibility). Interrogating a whole town, cross-referencing records and following saffron traces delivers classic deduction with modern polish. Voice acting carries the text-heavy hours, and achievements reward morality and absurdity alike. The keypad, voltage console and final look-away confrontation confuse rather than challenge, some exposition explains its own abbreviations backwards, and the twist is satisfying rather than shocking. Personality paths change tools more than outcomes, and the hallucinated dead partner still grounds the finale emotionally. A tight six hours that rewards curiosity at every step.
