Mafia III: Definitive Edition

Literally unreal. 5/5

a very good game

The game is good but not great if we compared it with Mafia Definitive Edition and Mafia 2 Definitive edition, but in terms of gameplay, and the environment, open World is good but not felt like real crime story inspired but instead feels more like destruction and chaos

Mafia 3 is a game that I wanted to like for its incredible characters and atmosphere, but it actively disrespects the player's time. It is the definition of a mixed bag: it has a 9/10 story suffocated by 4/10 gameplay padding. It’s a textbook bad-mid game that is only worth playing on a deep clearance sale just to watch the cutscenes.

Going back to Mafia III now, years after its release, really made me look at the game differently. When it first came out, I completely understood the criticism. It was pretty rough technically, with bugs, performance issues and plenty of problems that made the experience frustrating. The repetitive missions didn’t help either, especially when you were constantly doing the same things to take over another racket. But after all the updates and patches, it’s definitely a much better experience. The technical issues are nowhere near as distracting, and you can actually focus on what I think Mafia III does best: the story, characters and atmosphere. New Bordeaux is still one of my favorite things about the game. Driving around, listening to the 1960s soundtrack and taking in the atmosphere can be genuinely relaxing. The story is also really good, with Lincoln Clay’s revenge story having some great moments, and the characters like Vito, Burke and Cassandra adding a lot to it. The gameplay can still get repetitive, there’s no denying that, but I think there’s a really good game underneath it all. Mafia III definitely had a rough launch, but coming back to it today, I found myself enjo…

Mafia III gets an unfair rep for its repetitive mission structure, but I think beneath the surface lies one of the most authentic, atmospheric, and politically charged crime dramas in gaming. Set in 1968 New Bordeaux, Lincoln Clay’s brutal revenge campaign against Sal Marcano is backed by incredible historical realism, top-tier documentary-style storytelling, and an unmatched 1960s soundtrack. The real brilliance shines in its syndicate mechanics and world-building. Managing your Underbosses: Cassandra, Vito, and Burke - feels like running a genuine criminal enterprise where every district allocation, supply line, and territory multiplier directly impacts your empire's bottom line. From racial tensions in Delray Hollow to high-society hypocrisy in Frisco Fields, the setting feels alive and historically grounded. If you go in expecting a lighthearted sandbox, you might miss what makes it special. But if you appreciate immersive storytelling, violent gunplay, and deep criminal logistics, Mafia III is a brilliant, underrated masterpiece. 9/10
