About CLANNAD

✦ AI summary

Experience a touching visual novel about a jaded delinquent who finds purpose and friendship while helping revive his school's drama club alongside a mysterious girl named Nagisa. This emotional narrative-driven game explores themes of family, belonging, and redemption through beautifully upgraded HD visuals and branching character-driven storylines.

Story

After the death of his mother, Tomoya Okazaki—a guarded delinquent student at Hikarizaka High School—struggles to not only make sense of the abusive relationship he has with his alcoholic father, but also find meaning in his life. While on his way to class one morning, he meets a mystifying girl named Nagisa. She is a delinquent like him, but only because she is repeating her senior year, unlike the perpetually tardy Okazaki. From their brief encounter, Nagisa decides they should be friends, and enlists Tomoya's help to revive the school drama club. Not being busy in any way, he decides to join in. Along the way, the two make friends with many other students and try to find both solace and belonging in their endeavors.

✦ AI summary

CLANNAD receives mixed reactions from players, with some praising its characters and emotional storytelling once they adjust to the art style, while others find the narrative and character development disappointing and not engaging enough to warrant continued play. The game appears to appeal strongly to fans of visual novels who connect with its story, though it's equally clear that not all players find the premise compelling enough to overlook its presentation or early pacing issues.

HOT TAKE: This game sucks. I don't think I will get a refund at this point but I really don't understand why people praise this game. The main character is such a jerk to his best friend, the girls keep either hitting the main character or fawning over him for no reason, and he keeps skipping class and his dad does absolutely nothing to discipline him. I don't know if this is a cultural difference, but it feels like this was written by an elementary or high school student. The writing is not very good. I really tried to like this game. It has caused me to rethink all of my visual novel purchases. I definitely need something more adult.

This is a very interesting story, it is long and sad at times. The characters are very memorable and the music's pretty great. :D

Loved the anime and really enjoyed the Visual Novel, definitely worth playing.

A succesful "Crying Game" that presents a more down to earth story (in comparison to Kanon) about bonds between people.

A simply fantastic game, touching story, wonderful soundtrack. CLANNAD is simply a VN classic and I personally think a must-play. It felt like an eternity to play through it all (200hrs for one 100% run) and even though it was tiring at times, the game was a journey I really enjoyed. It's been years since I played it but it feels like it was yesterday <3
