Millennium - A New Hope

A lot of work went into this game, so I can see why it made an impact back in 2009, but I don't think it holds up well today. The word that keeps coming to mind is "amateurish." That's not entirely a bad thing, since it does have a janky nostalgic charm that reminds me of playing with RPG Maker 95 as a kid, but as a commercial product, it's very unpolished. The GUI is difficult (sometimes nearly impossible) to read, dialogue boxes are poorly formatted, game balance is all over the place, and map traversal is unclear due to the inconsistent jumping mechanics. Those might not have been deal-breakers for me, but what really puts me off is the writing. The script reads VERY young - like unedited tween chat room RP, complete with protracted bickering and in-line emotes enclosed in asterisks. It's honestly hard to take. Normally I wouldn't mind checking out a developer's newer work to see if they've improved over the years, so I looked them up to see what they're making now. Apparently, the answer is creepy AI slop, so I'm just writing this off as my first and last Aldorlea game.

Typical RPGmaker RPG

At first the obvious one. It´s an RPG Maker game. But it shouldn´t scare you away. It tells a pretty interesting story. Also it´s the first fame in a five part series. So it has even more to tell if you like the world. Graphics ingame are pretty much RPG Maker level, which is okay. I like the character design. And i really love the music which is high quality compared to other RPG Maker games. Gameplaywise the game actually shines. You can play it in any difficulty from Hello on Earth to a story mode with navigation markers to your next quest. Which is actually cool. Expect around 8 to 10 hours of gameplay. And looooots of games from the author if it charms you. If you look for exactly that experience i think 10 bucks are justified. But since there are quite some games from the author you might also wait for a sale.

Really rough start but not that bad, it gets better. A bit repetitive of course, and the backtrack at the end was getting on my nerves. I liked the idea of orbs.
