Human Resource Machine is a puzzle game for nerds. In each level, your boss gives you a job. Automate it by programming your little office worker. If you succeed, you'll be promoted up to the next level for another year of work in the vast office building. Congratulations!

Don't worry if you've never programmed before - programming is just puzzle solving. If you strip away all the 1's and 0's and scary squiggly brackets, programming is actually really simple, logical, beautiful, and something that anyone can understand and have fun with! Are you already an expert? There will be extra challenges for you.

✦ AI summary

Human Resource Machine is a well-executed puzzle game that teaches programming concepts through a simplified assembly language, with most players praising its clever progression and ability to make coding fun even for those who typically dislike the subject. However, some find the gameplay tedious and frustrating, criticizing the primitive editor and feeling the HR theme is merely window dressing for repetitive code-golf-style challenges.

A well delivered, complete game that is simple in concept but excellent in execution. Fun, starts off simple but quickly ramps up appropriately.

If you love programming or are interested in the subject, this is a really good game for building on what you already know as well as getting started in the world of programming. One of the best in its niche
Not recommended Sep 13, 2026
It seems like a good idea, but in practice it ends up not very rewarding, difficult, tedious, and slightly unpleasant. I used to write 6502 and 68000 assembly code for fun, a long time ago. And my wife works in HR, so I thought I'd get this for her. It turns out it's just code golf in a very primitive assembly language, with the world's worst editor. The HR aspect is purely on the surface, it's actually just writing simplified assembly language under the worst possible conditions.
